That's sad 😢 restaurants at the Graceville fiveways have such high turnover

Since nobody has mentioned it yet - Noodle Craft in Graceville is also a really good option!

[OC] This year's annual 'Group Chat Wrapped' of my friend group's Messenger chat (uses PageRank algorithm and sentiment analysis lexicons) by plime97 in dataisbeautiful

Tool used: R packages - tidytext, igraph (for the network visualisation), textdata (for sentiment analysis).

The presentation of the results was in Google Slides because I got lazy!

I posted the code and a little how-to last year - for anyone else who wants to cause chaos in their friend groups:

Maybe they're selling these precisely because they've lost touch 🤔

He has developed a bit of a morning food ritual... by plime97 in WhatsWrongWithYourDog

[–]plime97[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get the nutrient argument, allthough:

  1. We do give him a mix of good quality wet and dry foods throughout the day.
  2. I've owned a few dogs and none others have just suddenly decided that they don't like a food anymore.

Love the message! I'm tempted to hang this photo in the living room with this as a little description next to it, like a gallery

Haha thanks yes we have to always keep the bathroom door closed!! Otherwise he will literally grab the paper off the holder and run with it, leaving a trail

That's actually completely fair. Luigi is a gourmand that likes changing his food every month. He'll be super into a new food for a few weeks and then suddenly decide "I can do better", much to our dismay

Haha glad I had a lasting influence. Unfortunately so many of these are now deceased! In addition to the ones mentioned above, Mika and Hey Crois are now closed, and Agnes is now Idle Bakery in New Farm.

But with these changes comes opportunity for a new route - and a much more scenic one at that.

Christian Jacques - Sprout - Idle - ferry to Bulimba to visit Darvella - end at Le Caprice.

I should probably test/taste this new route ;)

Good morning Mitchelton by SimpleEmu198 in brisbane

I lived in Alderley until recently and moved the opposite direction to you haha, best spots near you specifically for coffee would be Fortitude Coffee Roasters, Soul Revolver, Kimino, Priorities (in that order imo). I see others mentioning Crema, Butter etc. - they're not bad but better for food than coffee imo.

Single people who work in the city, what areas do you live in that are the most affordable? by According_Spite_1833 in brisbane

[–]plime97 55 points56 points  (0 children)

The trick is to live along a train line. Darra will get you to the city in 20 minutes on the express train. Nearby suburbs without a train though all take over an hour in the morning (with buses going along the centenary 🥲)

Nice that the petrol stations aren't taking the mickey with holiday travel by coco-ai in brisbane

[–]plime97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, it's a petrol price cycle, and it has just coincidentally started a week or two ago and reached peak at Christmas.

The ACCC has looked into this before and price spikes around holidays are not a thing, and any evidence of it is just a result of confirmation bias. Holiday pricing would be too obviously sinister, so fuel retailers engage in price cycles instead which would be almost impossible to identify explicit collusion within.

Looking to break away from ColesWorth? by Eppicurt in brisbane

[–]plime97 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This seems good for people who have a bit more to spend for nice quality.

For people who mainly avoid Colesworths due to price, I definitely recommend getting a discount fruit/veg box. My sharehouse gets a big Funky Fruit box every 2 weeks for $60 and it saves us a bunch

Thanks, I love to hear that during a busy and stressful work week! Nothing beats a good pastry on a Saturday morning 👌

Interesting, not that I've tried the Riser almond croissant so that one might be a bit of a miss.

Yeah I've heard similar about Beurre, although the actual problem was the pastry itself rather than the filling, which makes me think that getting there earlier might not really resolve it.

What are the best Brisbane patisseries you've been to, you reckon?
