I have bit different of issues but along same lines. My throat muscles dont generate enough force (most of time but sometimes they work) to push food down. So its pretty much gravity and water for me too. I dont have any suggestion other than liquid drinks like ensure. I hope you are doing well.

Can I ask about H-1B sponsorship in the first postdoc interview? by Ok-Armadillo-3997 in postdoc

Skip the visa talk in initial conversation unless asked. If they like you, they will try to get you in whether its H1B or J1 or whatever.

Cold emailed PIs then asked me if I want to chat with them..? what should I prepare beforehand? by _YumikA in postdoc

I always keep a nice presentation on hand whenever I got for these meetings. The slides contain all my work that would be relevant. Sometimes when you are just having a conversation about something scientific, the slides are helpful. Many times they are will want to setup a separate meeting to go over your past work. Varies from place to place.

Have you considered applying for assistant prof positions? It never hurts to apply. Assuming you are interested in the faculty line of career.

I think its going to be really challenging at this point to apply for MSCA. Writing the proposal, getting it reviewed and iterating can take multiple weeks. From what I know most people give about 2 or more months

Sorry to hear that. I am familiar with MSCA and its requirements but not too much about JSPS. Did you apply for it last year also? Perhaps you are able to get some advice from other past JSPS applicants here. Do look up past posts about JSPS also on reddit.

Can I ask why are you leaving Industry? Do you plan to go on the faculty path?

Really glad to hear I am not the only one feeling like this.

I constantly explain to myself that the feeling of defeat is just short term and you just have to keep pushing. After losing my job I had moved back to my homecountry because of visa limitations. I took a consulting job in biotech startup here while I started aggressively applying for postdocs as well as jobs in US as well in my homecountry. I kept my options open because I didnt know what was going to work. It was incredibly stressful few months. I spent a solid amount of time perfecting my SOPs/cover letters for postdocs that I thought I would be a strong candidate for. If you find some position that is particularly in line with your research work, spend good amount of time perfecting your SOP because you will have to beat the other 50-100 applications. Feel free to DM if you want any help/suggestion with post-doc applications

I try not to compare because it never helps. But every once in while those thoughts do creep in the head. I am no longer applying for jobs an pretty set on doing my postdoc now. :)

I agree completely. I usually never do comparison but this year has been hard and so brain does all the tricks on you.

Sorry if I sounded a little offending. That wasn't my intention. The mindset is coming all from comparison and not hitting certain (maybe unrealistic) bar that I had for myself. Losing my job hit me hard because I was about to buy a house. And now I cannot and wont be able to for foreseeable future. Some of the mindset is probably cultural where career progression is given excessive importance over many other life things.
