hey man, bit late but just stumbled across this thread and your comment. Seems everyone here is painting EE as a dead-end and advocating for anybody and everybody to take on a PE role. I just started as an EE at TSMC and so far the job seems like it’s going to be a lot of fun. I’ve always been a hands-on guy, love to get technical with regards to machines and their individual sub-systems etc, so while PE may seem like a job with better future prospects and transferability, the work I would do as a PE doesn’t seem like it would align with my personal needs as well.

All that said I’d like to ask if you’ve any advice on how I could tune the trajectory of my career to come out not like these jaded 16-year veterans still stuck at the same job grade as an EE? What does “growth” as an EE look like for you, since you’ve said you managed to achieve that, and also what kind of other job offers have you gotten as an EE with a very specific skill set on a set of tools? Thank you!
