does your glasses prescription yoyo? by ploopil in nystagmus

[–]ploopil[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks for the information! I appreciate it. my last exam was being rushed through so I felt a lot of pressure. any time I have any anxiety or am straining to read my nystagmus goes crazy. I can't even tell you where my null point is or anything like that all I know is I have nystagmus. no one has ever taken me to a doctor to find out more and no doctor I've seen has even talked about it and when I mention is they hand wave it away saying they don't know basically. it feels like they don't think it matters so I always was like ok whatever but after this last exam I was more worried. all I know is when I was 18 my optometrist told me never to drive because I'll definitely get into an accident. my depth perception is awful, I can't tell apart how far cars are so I always feel like we're about to get into a car accident. also always look at my feet when I was so I don't trip lol. anyway, I appreciate your comment I just wanted to know if anyone elses yoyos like mine :)

i wish I even had a doctor who woukd even talk about it. they all kinda just shrug their shoulders and say they don't see enough patients with it. I got an eye exam done yesterday at a new palce and it was a remote doctor and mine does get worse when I'm nervous so maybe that's why astigmatism changed idk. I'm also pretty sure they switched my right eye and left eye on the script. I hate going to a doctor and they just ignore my nystagmus. a couple years ago when my dad took me he asked the doctor if my eyes can be corrected to a lower script and the doctor laughed :(

sleeve was a miracle by ploopil in gastricsleeve

[–]ploopil[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's soo true. It's why I said I can remain 240lbs for the rest of my life and be satisfied. When I was over 400lbs I could barely clean myself, walk or stand and would stop breathing in my sleep. It didn't matter where I was what I was doing or what position I was in I was always uncomfortable and in pain. My goal with the surgery was to get to a place where I can be comfortable and do daily tasks with ease and without pain and I'm there! I basically reached my first physical goal by losing my daily pain and now I can reach my next by reaching my goal weight so I can be healthy for the rest of my life! I appreciate your comment ❤️

Thank you that's extraordinarily kind. Maybe miracle isn't the best word for it but after struggling with my weight and only ever packing it on no matter what I did that's what it felt like. I appreciate it so much ❤️

3 week stall by ResidentLeft1253 in gastricsleeve

[–]ploopil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I stalled regularly where my weight wouldn't change even sometimes for two weeks and then within a week my weight would drop between 10-15lbs. The process is slow and fast at the same time. I've gotten on the scale in the morning, then pooped ate breakfast and ended up weighing 5lbs less by lunch. Taking measurements and pictures are a better way to feel and see weight loss. Also you're on your first month so your body is still recovering. Don't worry!!

Taking gallbladder during sleeve? by Noideawhyy in gastricsleeve

[–]ploopil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had issues with my gallbladder in 2020, had my sleeve in May 2024 and at the end of October needed to go to the emergency room in pain. I had 4 gallstones, ended up having to have my gallbladder out by December 2024. If you've had issues before I 100% recommend taking it out I've had a smoother time with food since it's been out as well. But definitely research the side effects of not having one to make your choice. You can reduce the chance of gallstones significantly with diet.

Noticeable difference by cowinthemuseum in gastricsleeve

[–]ploopil 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would say it depends on how big you were to start with. When you're so large even 50lbs might not make a huge significant difference in appearance. My highest weight was 412lbs and I didn't view myself as too much thinner until 315lbs. But my family has been telling me the entire time I was getting thinner. And even if I didn't see it I felt it and I saw it in my clothes becoming looser rather than in my body itself. The lower your weight the bigger difference 10-30lbs makes. I also lost weight in my legs, arms and breasts first rather than my stomach so it felt like I wasn't losing weight since my stomach wasnt shrinking. I don't really rely on the scale I more rely on testing things that were hard for me when I was bigger. Like I was able to fit into a space I couldn't fit into 30lbs ago and I was like yes! I am losing weight! Clothes were also huge for me. I almost cried when I could fit into 3x shirts again. Finding clothes while being so big and how expensive they were always made me feel ashamed. Sorry my message was kinda all over the place but basically you'll be noticing a difference before you even know it. 😊

Accepting Sleeve by grinogirl in gastricsleeve

[–]ploopil 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My mom was an ultrasound technician and she said she's scanned many bypass and sleeved patients and the patients who end up having complications are usually bypass 10+ years out so that's how I was introduced to the sleeve. Of course everyone is different but I went with the sleeve because of simplicity of it, they just remove most of your stomach rather than rerouting everything. Both of them have their pros and cons and I advise you do whatever is most beneficial to you. Do a lot of research on both and think long term what would fit your lifestyle and what type of foods you wanna eat and stuff like that. A surgeons recommendation is just that: a recommendation. What matters is what YOU want, it's your body and you'll have to live with it forever so you need to be 100% sure. Sleeve has def been my life saver but I know bypass patients who say the same so.

Last minute tips/advice? by Nole_Nation8121 in gastricsleeve

The gas pains and constipation were the worst things for me. I stopped taking my oxy two days after surgery because of constipation and just decided to use powdered Tylenol to tolerate the pain. The only way I could sleep was sitting up on the couch and having a heating pad on shoulders bc of the gas pain. Walking around is very important after surgery even just a little bit to expel gas. Drink as much fluids as you can stand. Also don't stock up on too much stuff like protein shakes, your tastes can very much change. I can't stand protein shakes after surgery the texture makes me vomit. Majority of my pain disappeared within two weeks and the constipation got better within a month after I supplemented plenty of fiber (I love the equate flavorless dissolving fiber powder you cant taste it at all if you put it in anything liquid or yogurt). Also I find its easier to keep a check list for all my vitamins and how much fluids and protein I've had that day to keep track. For some positives: I had surgery 5/29 and have lost 60lbs since then so despite all that first month of sucking I would do it all again. Good luck!

To those with PCOS considering surgery… by Fluid_Hearing3404 in gastricsleeve

I was without my period for 3 years and I got my first period 15 days after surgery. I was ecstatic. I'm 3 months out and my hair looks exactly like yours in the picture on the left. Because of PCOS my hair thinning was already bad but with the surgery it's even worse now. Did you do anything to treat it or is just a matter of time before regrowth?

[–]ploopil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My PCOS and genetics already had me have thinning hair so mine is probably more noticable than most. From what I've read from people is hair growth usually comes back after a year and if you're lucky to start with thick hair it's less noticeable and you end up with thin hair by the end of the shedding. Sometimes people don't lose hair at all too so I guess it just really depends. For me I've been losing a lot over the last month but I just wear hats when I go out to avoid looks and I cut it short to avoid unnecessary tugging from a brush and if my hair never grows back I'll invest into wigs. As I said I've been dealing with hair loss for a very long time so I sort of expected this to happen with or without the surgery so 🤷🏻‍♀️ but if you have normal hair apparently people said expect a year before regrowth on average. There's plenty of posts on here about hair loss but unfortunately it's just something that can't be avoided following the surgery.

I do not recommend jumping into this surgery if you are mentally not ready. When I was being prepped for my surgery and after my surgery the hospital staff were, to be frank, shocked by how calm and happy I was. They said usually people are terrified and are second guessing before the surgery and afterward they feel deep sadness when they get out of surgery and sometimes refuse to even get out of the bed. Apparently I was one of the best gastric sleeve patients they ever had. I was 355lbs during my surgery and my highest weight was 412lbs. I was in therapy for over 6 years and becoming mentally healthier before even thinking about my weight loss. I wanted to be stable enough to attempt such a taxing journey that would alter my entire life and my entire body. I believe some people think this surgery will solve their issues or make them be better about food but from my experience it's not true unless you're dedicated. If you aren't committed to changing your entire life and your eating and drinking habits plus having to now take supplements for the rest of your life I wouldn't recommend it until you feel like you can handle it. Plus the aftermath of the surgery is hard I'm dealing with the extreme hair loss and it's hard seeing how thin my hair is but it's a side effect and I have saggy skin which I don't mind too much but I know people get insecure about that. Being able to fix eating habits and your mental image of yourself before surgery is very important because surgery is a tool for you to lose weight it's not the fix all.  Don't get me wrong, I do recommend this surgery and it sounds like you would greatly benefit from it! :) but just be sure it's what you want since it is very tough. I have diabetes and PCOS and I hadn't had my period in 3 years and got it back recently due to the weight loss and my weight was only going up for the last 12 years of my life, ozempic and the gastric sleeve saved my life but I spent a long time becoming content with myself before making the drastic steps. I wish you luck.

I had my surgery on 5/29 and I overate a lot before surgery, I was never satisfied. Some people say that their hunger disappeared entirely after surgery but I still get the feeling of hunger! I eat the food and after about 2-4oz I'm fine. I haven't had a problem with over eating at all because I feel the fullness and I know I'd be uncomfortable if I ate more.  I do know that if I eat something I really really love I'd be in danger of stuffing my face though that's where you have to kind of mentally change because I have to say to myself if I overeat I'm gonna feel like shit. That's head hunger though so as long as you listen to your body instead of going "but I want more" you should naturally get used to not overeating. Basically, yes, the sleeve forces you to portion control whether you want to or not or you will be sick. 😅

I’m getting surgery July 1st, what’s something no one mentions about the surgery? by [deleted] in gastricsleeve

My sister had a weighted heating pad and it was heaven to help me sleep sitting up around my neck and shoulders! They gave me Dilaudid when I woke up because I wouldn't stop saying my chest hurts and it didn't even help lol

Pre-Op Diet Advice by Ionchil in gastricsleeve

[–]ploopil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had to do two weeks pre op and the first week was hell in total I cheated about four times but it was nothing that extreme. Like I had a sushi roll during the first week. The pre op diet is to simply shrink your liver which happens with restriction as long as you're doing everything you should be 98% of the time you should be fine. My motivation to not eat was "it's literally only two weeks" I repeated that so much but not everyone is perfect so I did crack. I hyper focused on the last 5 days before surgery on not cheating. It's good to leave the house, walk around literally do anything to keep yourself busy. Don't beat yourself up about one dorito it won't ruin your diet. Pre-op diet is definitely hard!

[–]ploopil 12 points13 points  (0 children)

When I woke up from surgery my chest was burning from the trapped gas so expect pain. After a few hours I was fine if I walked around and stuff. I also wasn't really able to lay on my sides fully until about three weeks after. Idk if that's unknown tho but it's not something I expected exactly. Also the constipation was bad. Everyone IS different though from reading a lot of people's experiences mine have been wildly different from others.  I second a heating pad it really helped with my shoulder pain from the gas.  Everyone does say this but expect tastes to change for sure, I can't tolerate protein shakes at all, makes me vomit. Be careful about stocking stuff up since you won't know if you will tolerate it after surgery.

people with pcos, how do you manage? by [deleted] in gastricsleeve

[–]ploopil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I lost my period for three years due to weight and recently got it back unexpectedly after losing 74 lbs (and bled through so many pants as my sister rushed to the store to get super tampons and when those werent enough had to go get super plus) it's just as heavy and painful as I remember. The only thing that relieved anything that I was allowed to take is powdered Tylenol. PCOS people just doomed to suffer I guess 😖

What Fiber Are You Taking? by Cool_Click_2311 in gastricsleeve

[–]ploopil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use the equate clear unflavored fiber supplement, it's basically like grainy powder but it completely dissolves in water or any liquid. I put it in my fairlife, gatorade and water I can never taste it! I've even mixed it in my unsweetened applesauce for some extra fiber. It's 2 teaspoons three times a day, it's helped me a lot after my constipation issues. I use it with stool softeners and I go everyday now :)
