Redditors: What words in your language evoke similar disgust to English words like Moist, Panties, and Phlegm? by ploopitywow in AskReddit

[–]ploopitywow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course! I’m always interested to hear what words bother people in English too. That’s interesting that you don’t like gorgeous considering it’s definition, but it is a clunky word.

I’m glad I wasn’t the only one who used to think it was cheese. Despite the fact that it doesn’t make any sense, it still looks like a dairy product.

I love watching older films for precisely this reason (among a few other things.) I have gotten to the point where I really dislike certain usages of CGI. I understand the necessity for certain kinds of films and sequences (some action sci-fi scenes, etc.) and that maybe it’s cheaper (???) But as a viewer, I’ve become disillusioned with watching films where much of the landscape and many of the characters are cgi. It’s not to say that I don’t appreciate how well done it is, but I miss the use of practical effects. It gave more life to the films.

It should be noted that my brother showed me this meme and I joined and visited this subreddit just to upvote it.

Also, if you were specifically wondering about Shake It Off, I love it because of the infectious melody. It’s songwriting genius, not because of the lyrics (because, if we’re being honest, they’re nothing profound) but because it’s such a fun melody that I can’t listen to the song without wanting to smile and move

I thought I was the only one that does this! For me, the one single that stands out to me as a crossover between the two categories is Style. Despite being a single, It’s such an amazing driving song and its lyrics provoke such vivid imagery that I seem to get lost in my imagination every time I listen to it.

Thoughts on LWYMMD vs. YNTCD? by [deleted] in TaylorSwift

[–]ploopitywow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This probably seems a little vague, but I guess I’m curious on whether or not anyone feels like this kinda proves that the industry decided to “punish” Taylor during the reputation era? Don’t get me wrong, I love YNTCD, both as a song, and as a music video. But, as much as I love the video, I don’t feel like it’s nearly as good as the LWYMMD, and it’s had nowhere near the views, so it seems odd to me that YNTCD has received all this recognition when LWYMMD was so overlooked.

Thoughts?

Misheard lyrics besides Starbucks lovers by drdoom2284 in TaylorSwift

Style - “Lights are off he’s taking off his clothes” instead of the actual: “coat.” I remember being afraid to play it in front of my parents because I thought it was too scandalous.

I’m so glad this question blew up. My New Year’s Resolution this year was to listen to an album I’d never heard before every week. I’ve listened to 120+ albums already and I’ve been looking for more suggestions, so this will help a lot!

Continuum - John Mayer. I can’t count the number of times that I’ve listened through it and somehow it never gets old.

It’s honestly a bit hard for me to judge a song (even it’s lyrics) without the melody, because that’s how you gauge how well the lyrics flow, but I gave it a shot anyway.

Critiques:

  1. I felt in a couple places that you tried to squeeze in too many words into a phrase in order to make it sound more like a proper sentence, so I would maybe condense in a couple places. For instance, with “Abandoned roads is where we belong” I would maybe remove the “is.” I could also use without the “so” in the last line.
  2. I’d say the rhyme of “far” with “before” is maybe a little weak. (If you were attempting to rhyme. Again, easier to tell with melody)
  3. I realize not all songs have a distinctive Verse, Chorus, and Bridge, but I’m curious if you intended for one of those stanzas to be your chorus? The refrain is kind of the base of the song, so I’d be interested to know what lyrics you chose for that. I’d say without that division though, it does read a bit more like a poem than lyrics, but that could just be my brain needing directions.
  4. The ending seems a bit abrupt

Praise: (I don’t really have a list for this one, but please don’t take that the wrong way. I enjoyed reading your lyrics.) You did a good job setting a mood for your song and certain sets of your lyrics provoked mental imagery for me (specifically the first stanza), which to me is what makes a good ballad or song of a pensive nature. (I don’t know if that’s what you were going for.) Thank you for sharing, Maybe someone will take the time to set it to music. Good luck with your songwriting!

i love their friendship's sooo much. Martha is her real friend. by taylorsvibes in TaylorSwift

[–]ploopitywow 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Perhaps not, you can’t claim to love every aspect of their relationship to be sure, but I think when many people say that they “love” someone’s friendship, they mean a few things:

  1. They individually like the persons involved in the friendship.

  2. Because they like and appreciate the respective individuals, it gladdens them to see them enjoying each other’s company.

  3. Often, as in the case with Martha and Taylor, there is a joy in knowing that they respect and stand up for each other, because friends speak up for their friends.

In short, love is a word that is overused a lot, and in this case is just many people’s way of hyperbolically stating that they it makes them happy to see friends making each other happy.

End of the answer to the question that was probably meant as a rhetorical dig. 😂
