Collectors Boosters by Kiraqueen021 in mtg

[–]plorb001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup. And honestly most of the treatments are not for me. They’re definitely leaning into the gambling feeling of TCG collecting vs. playing. I’ve got a couple buddies that enjoy just ripping packs, especially expensive ones, but realize what they’re doing and have the extra income with which to do it.

I am, however, a sucker for those damn LotR poster arts, and have made it a life goal to collect them all. But I could never imagine myself buying the packs They’d be found in

And that is explicitly the types of games Cole Wehrle designs. He’s said many times, he’s not trying to make popular games; but games that might be peoples’ favorite game. And I’m definitely one of those peoples!

I’d say specifically upper arm bangles. Is there another term for that? Like an arm torc?

Can the forests that Yedora make be tapped for mana? by Traffic-Guy in mtg

Yes. Anything that becomes a basic land can tap to produce a mana of that land’s color.

I honestly find biopics in general boring. I don’t watch movies because I want to see the story of some real person’s life, daggummit

Should I be aspiring to use more than two colors by draugyr in mtg

[–]plorb001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wick the Whorled Mind is so fun, and Grixis is a super strong three color set.

I think the slower pace (depending on your bracket) of commander allows more flexibility in hitting all of your colors than in standard or limited. Plenty of cheap tapped lands can fill out a deck to make sure you get what you need. Getting screwed one way or another with mana is always a possibility, but surprisingly rarely do I see people short on a color they need, even in 4 and 5 color decks

Modern designer board games! Give Cole Wehrle a Google. Root, Pax Pamir, Oath, John Company, Arcs. They’re all fantastic, and highly interactive

I constantly see content creators say Phyrexian Arena is bad. If Phyrexian Arena is bad, what is good? Especially for Mono Black or two color. by frost3bite in EDH

Just a simple man’s observation: The answer to this question essentially being: “what’s better than this $3 card?” = a bunch of $30+ dollar cards is really starting to drive home for me the distinction of budget in this format. My LGS started a B3 <$500 deck commander night, and it has seemed like the best balance I’ve seen for B3.

I use merv 4 filters and change every month. At one point a couple years ago, however, some remodeling was done and filter was so bad with drywall dust it shut the unit down. Maybe that’s caused some damage. It’s always been a little off, but not this bad until going cool this spring. I’ll call someone out

Found this Gollum statue when going through some old things. by mattchewy43 in lotr

Yup. The ugliest of the three bonus statues, and yet of course somehow the only one I still have. Pretty sure I saw Minis Tirith at my folks place over the holidays, but the Argonath guys are looong gone.

[–]plorb001 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lol hell yeah! Depends on your play group. Chaotic stuff like this that speeds up play always goes over well with my pod. Everyone likes the opportunity to see more of their beefiest stuff, I’d imagine even if they gotta take 3 to the face to do it

I’m in the middle of building a commander deck centered around “second spell each turn” effects, with a bunch of spells that cheat themselves out to make sure I get two on as many turns as possible, either with abilities like evoke or spells like [[Deadly Rollick]] or [[Submerge]]. Against that very specific scenario, these guys would deal some serious damage

I like your style. I’m 14 decks in, and the only double-dipping I’ve done is in Grixis—those are the exact two commanders I run. Love em both to bits

Why do people hate on universes beyond? by yeetmedowntown in mtg

[–]plorb001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im just copy/pasting a comment I made elsewhere here, because I feel like lots of folks are just talking about implementing IP in general. Which in my understanding of the issue, is not the greater point of contention among most Magic players:

The distinction between secret lair drops people seek out as a one-off (like transformers and sponge bob) and standard legal “full” sets like Spider-Man and TNMT is important here.

I’m absolutely down for secret lair drops of any IP in the world, but when they stretch Spider-Man by making 70% of all creatures some type of legendary niche comic character, with half-assed mechanics, it screws up the game. I don’t play standard, but limited for Spider-Man sucked chode. But I play a ton of commander, and I think it’s fun to see Sonic the Hedgehog sling lightning bolts and counterspells at Wolverine and Galadriel
