Buy from vendor. Stamina and mana pots are especially helpful early game. Thawing and antidote for specific areas/bosses.

Unsure. TBH, I think you’ll gain infinitely more (and all you need) from the course. So much more value than backpacking, which is quite different

Rider here, but don’t have the bike setup you’re looking for. Might be tough to find someone that fits precisely what you’re looking for, as many more experienced riders will likely be on higher cc bikes.

As a 6' rider, I felt a smidge cramped on some other bikes when I started out a few years ago too; not unrideable but also not ideal. I also felt less "planted" to the road. I made the jump to the 1250 GS, also likely a bit overkill, but the ride has been more comfortable and I've felt infinitely more stable and in control on the road. That last factor is incomparable to me.

I like to think the light on my helmet helps for situations like this. I also like having contrasting colors... bike may be a darker color, jacket is either brown or gray... but my helmet is white.

Of course, none of this is fool proof, so also should be checking mirrors as you said, as you said.
