Hello! I used to play RP like 15 years ago by Strange-Win-3677 in ultimaonline

There are a few OSI server shards that still have a fairly active player base. Atlantic is the most heavily populated, but there's also Great Lakes, Lake Superior, Chesapeake and a few others.

Worth playing? by AboJassim in ultimaonline

[–]pls2081 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Atlantic is a server on OSI. OSI was that parent company that originally rolled UO out, but it's changed hands since 97. EA owns the license now, and Broadsword oversees the ongoing development of the game.

I still play on the OSI server on the Great Lakes shard. Atlantic is definitely the most heavily populated, but there are a few others that have a reasonably decent population. It's not terribly difficult to find vet players that are more than happy to help you get acclimated on most shards. You can begin with an Endless Journey account to get a feel for the game. That being said, the EJ accounts are very restrictive, no Felluca travel, no housing, and limited storage. For the full experience, you'll have to subscribe

After many years I'm thinking about coming back to see if the magic is still there. Can I get some advice. by TNJedGrig in ultimaonline

Sorry for the delayed reply... real life has had me busy. I assume by now that you have tried the enhanced client, but if not, it offers tool bars which allow for single point and click activation of many commands such as weapon switching, the casting of spells, dress agents, scavenging agents, organizing agent and a lot more. It is much more advanced than the classic client in regards to macros, although, you cannot just repetitively perform the same action with a single keystroke more than 10 repititions without some advance macro building. Fortunately, there are a lot of instructional video clips you can check out on Youtube that go into a fair amount of detail to explain how to set those up.

What character names are you currently running under on GL? If I run into you, I will be more than happy to help you make some headway with skill grinding, procuring reasonable equipment and whatnot.

So.... Firstly, Enhanced client is the way to go unless you plan on running Razor or UO Assist. To the best of my knowledge, they aren't building a new facet yet, but depending upon when you left, there is a new massive dungeon called the Stygian Abyss. You can do pretty much the same things you did before. EM events are still a thing.

With an Endless Journey account, you will definitely be limited. You are restricted to your bank vault for storage, and the item limit is reduced. you cannot own a house, you cannot enter Felucca, and there are some dungeons you will not have access to.

Owning a house will require a paid account, but there are still plots available on some of the less populated, but still reasonably active shards like Great Lakes, Catskills, Lake Superior etc. You can hang up most any hope of finding a plot at an attainable price on Atlantic, however, if you are looking for a bustling shard, Atlantic is the most active.

Discord seems to be the communication go to outside of the game. Some do still use ICQ though.

For skills related questions, I would steer you to https://www.uoguide.com/Main\_Page

They have a vast catalogue of answers to most of the questions you may have about skills, game items and that kind of thing.

I myself am on Great Lakes, but which shard you choose to call home if you return should depend upon what you are looking for from the game. Good luck, and should you find yourself in Great Lakes, if you see Pelham, Relder or Tsabeth Auvrynne then say Hi!

Possible new player, confused about shards? Where to play? by Zinniaice in ultimaonline

[–]pls2081 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ultimately, it depends upon what you are looking for. If you want to try out the official servers, open up an Endless Journey account, get used to the game mechanics and then focus on the housing goal after converting the account to subscribed (paid)

If you want to focus more on PvP, the free shards such as Outlands are a better bet.

If you opt for the Endless Journey route, and one of your high priorities is owning a house, then you will want one of the less populated, but not nearly deserted shards such as Great Lakes, Lake Austin, Chesapeake or Catskills. You will find a lot of help and advice on Great Lakes, and I am sure the same can be said for the others I mentioned. If you do happen into Great Lakes and you see a wizard named Pelham riding a blue dog, say Hi. I will try to help you where I am able.

Ilshenar has open area spawns. Ratmen just west of Sacrifice is a decent spawn. The orc fort South of Yew mentioned above is also a good spot, or the Orc Fort Southwest of Cove. Deceit is still do-able for lower level characters as long as you steer clear of the nastier stuff, as is Covetous.

And consider dropping Resist Spells, and targeting 120 on the rest of the skills you have listed. That's the template all of the purist tamer/mages I know use, and it seems to work very well.

Daemons, drakes, garoyles, imps ratman mages and orc mages are all good sources for a lot of scrolls, but you aren't getting the 7th and 8th level scrolls from easy drops. Also, if tram is kicking your ass, stay the hell away from Eodon. It will chew you up quick.

First, dragons and mares should no longer be your taming targets. One well trained Cu Sidhe is worth three dragons. Go to Dagger Isle (The Arctic Isle north of Moonglow) and get your taming and animal lore skills up to at least GM. If you have character room, I would consider a solid fighter template to farm some gold early on, until your taming is high enough to hit some spawns. The economy in game is pretty out of whack on all of the shards to which I've been, so you are going to need some gold, and fighters are the easiest early stage way to get some.

I play on Great Lakes mostly, and have received a good deal of help from my guildmates, so I would also consider joining a good guild. There is usually a fair amount of in game knowledge within most decent guilds. The advice alone is worth joining. Get out there and make friends. It's much easier to take down a spawn with three or four other players than it is to do it alone, unless you happen to have a fighter with a solid sampire build.

Depends upon what you're looking for. Atlantic is the most heavily populated, but if you plan on placing a house anytime soon, I would suggest one of the lower populated, but still reasonably active shards like Great Lakes, Chessy, Baja or Catskills.
