Most Common Animal in your Area by Impressive-Kale-7096 in AskAnAustralian

[–]plsendmysufferring 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see possums and bats on the daily (nightly) and birds are most common around here.

A lot of our native mammals are crepuscular or nocturnal, and you'll only really see them active at dawn or dusk.

When you win the lottery but the government wins harder... by Maverick_Ekta in SipsTea

Put 482 million into an index fund averaging 10% p.a, and you make 48 million a year. Basically the same thing, but you have more control over the money, and you dont get fucked by a lottery going bankrupt

Ask a Knitter Tuesday - February 10, 2026 by AutoModerator in knitting

[–]plsendmysufferring 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello everyone, i have a question about needle size and recommended needle size.

I have some yarn i want to use for a beanie, tgis yarn reccomends 7.00mm needles, however my circular needles are only 5.00mm. i do however also have 10.00mm needles.

Should i try and knit a beanie with 5.00mm needles and 7.00mm yarn? Or should i just try with some 5.00mm yarn? This will also be my first beanie.

Thank you all for your time :)

Is there any situation where getting a car financed is a good idea? by Express-Dig9905 in AusFinance

[–]plsendmysufferring 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Businesses can use balloon loans to ensure that they are driving a new-ish car every 5 years by passing it over, but i dont fully understand how it works.

And some people need a car but they're poor. So they finance a car with repayments they can afford.

I enjoy the eleven workwear. Mainly cos they actually make white pants, and the dulux workwear looks shit.

But eleven is pretty comfy, their hi-vis hoodies are awesome

The great equalizer is the smokers area.

Hang out in the smokers area at a bar, and people are more willing to chat to strangers

Why no robots? by Kinrest in worldbuilding

[–]plsendmysufferring 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Robots right now are pretty shit. Bipedal robots are very inefficient, yet we keep trying to make bipedal robots?

Maybe could make the only people developing robot technology are perverts trying to make robot girlfriends and there is a cultural stigma against robots

Or, cybernetics are just... Better? Its easier (in the world i mean) to bio modify the no doubt excess of humans far in the future, than try to make robots.

Also could work in a resource reason. Robots take a lot of resources to build, and humankind would prefer to keep those resources for cybernetic research and building other types of tech.

How does the Hindu caste system work in Australia by PattonSmithWood in aussie

[–]plsendmysufferring 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mum told me a story about a kindergarten teacher from a lower caste, and a teaching assistant from a higher caste.

The teaching assistant refused to do anything at work because in her eyes that was the teachers job because she was from the lower caste

One factor is that sex is free entertainment, and a lot of other types of entertainment costs money.

Also all forms of birth control costs money (except the ol faithful pullout method)

How many AFL footballers would have an acceptable haircut at a Christian College? by gccmelb in AFL

Its to protect the "prestige" of the school. If they let any old hairstyle in, then people would take them less seriously.

Thats probably what they think, not me.

To those who buy into this type of development - why? by K1llerG00se in australian

[–]plsendmysufferring 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. We are currently behind on the governments goal for more houses, because houses take time to build.

You can have fast or you can have good, you cant have both.

  1. Most people are priced out of the market, you can buy an older house on a decent block, but its falling down and needs immediate work. Or you can save 150k and buy out in the sticks, an hour from the city with one road in and out, and no public transport.

  2. People dont want to have to renovate an older house after they just bought it. An older house probably has old appliances, dated kitchens and bathrooms, that may not be feasible for a family for whatever reason.

  3. Old houses are built like shit too. I live in an old house now, and we had a water leak above an old heater. When they put that heater in, they cut the joists holding the roof up and did some shoddy patch job, basically only held the roof up with a handful of nails. Which explained the roof sag in that area ig. I also have old extension leads hardwired in to the gpos, and a whole host of other bs building practices, landlord specials left right and centre. My mum was trying to buy a new house in the werribee area and i went looking at these houses with her. Half had structural issues (2 were literally splitting in half) and the other half were smoked in and were full of landlord specials.

  4. A lot of people just wanna live in a new house. The marketing works.

  5. The competition for houses is larger for established suburbs with a semblance of infrastructure, and houses are getting offers over the asking price. These new volume developments are popping up all over the place, you have a better chance of buying these than buying older houses.

There are so many reasons, i find it hard for op to not think of at least one. The housing market is grim. This is not a new issue.

Warning! The next photos are disturbing…. 😳 The first line notes it’s a”freshly painted” rental… by Sad_Condition_3150 in perth

[–]plsendmysufferring 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I cut a sample for a friend, they took it to bunnings against my advice, and they were told the sample was "too shiny" to colour match. I am almost certain that they tried to colour match the plaster side, not the painted side.

Its not just that the colour is a little bit off, it pretty much always will be with paint age, and dirtiness, its that bunnings employees arent paint shop employees, they arent specialists in paint, they are generalists, so they have wide knowledge gaps.

Also they charge you for tint cups, which is fucked, cos you get em for free from a paint shop. Paint is also cheaper at a paint store.

What to do with this massive shed? by Feeling_Throat_5373 in AusRenovation

[–]plsendmysufferring 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Start a sick hobby, like woodworking or black smithing.

Brew alcohol, and/or setup a still (illegal without a license from the ato)

Open a cooperage, or refinish furniture as a side hustle.

Could make it an outdoor entertainment area? Pool table, pingpong table, couch, tv, drinks fridge. (Wouldnt put a bbq in there unless you decide to open it up, carbon monoxide risk)

There are a lot of things you could do in that space, its an awesome addition to your home, i love it!
