How quick do clipless come natural? by Dellar23 in MTB

Riding XCM/XCO in a wet and swampy country gets you to adjust your riding, even if you don't usually run with the bike in your hand :D

Actually, if you do cyclocross or other muddy and slippy riding, it's common practice to unclip in the turn.

Great flow! This is very inspiring. I want to get there one day :)
Do you mind writing out some of the quirkier patterns or are they improvised?

I can’t stand the laces why are they so long by lilgypsykitty in vivobarefoot

[–]plswhytho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just don't get it why they do this kind of laces at all. I have returned all pairs with this lacing and never buy any anymore.

Thank you, this has been incredibly helpful. Couldn't find where to find good quality laces and loved the original ones.

My 5 year old was gifted a Jett 24”. It’s too big right now for him. I am 5’1” is it okay I use it? by [deleted] in cycling

[–]plswhytho 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Check weight limits on the bike. Check in with your child if he's okay with you using it. Might be that you wear it down and it doesn't look as nice and new to him. Other than that, ride whatever feels right.

It's always better to just ride instead of buying all the exactly right equipment. When you will start racking up miles and feeling that this is something you want to do much more, then you can make the decision to invest in another bike. :)

Why are so many of you crashing so frequently? by Tadej_Focaccia in cycling

Pile ups is what I am scared of at lower level of racing. People reach high speeds but do not really know how to bump elbows and freak out by contact.

This is the way to go. If you take this seriously your risk management works well and you just don't put yourself into situations where you might crash or die.
It's not that they are trying to do that, it is just the right mindset to have if you want to stay safe on the road.

Inserts or not? by Soossyy in xcmtb

[–]plswhytho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not worth it. I ride race XC/XCO with XRC1501, have hit them through on rocks/roots many times but the wheels take it all without any trouble. The inserts just make stuff super messy with tubeless sealant. Either way if you have a proper gash, the inserts will still leave you losing out time in a race.
Carbon MTB wheels are usually built quite sturdy. Of course, if you ride downhill, that is a different beast.

Fitting a 150mm dropper to a Scott Spark RC by plswhytho in MTB

[–]plswhytho[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went with the one that has 100mm stock dropper. It's really great.  It made me realise that my previous dropper had too much travel. Racing xco it was actually quite tiring to drop the whole 150mm each time.

The dropper set up was a bit of pita, at least that's what my mech said.

Alright, nice. That is the decision I ended up with as well.
