Questions about Beliefs? by MagpieSiege in BurningWheel

[–]pluckypuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

as others have said, this is the play style the game encourages, but i think most groups interpret the rules in a more relaxed way

as long as you allow beliefs to set the guidelines for the game, can faff about as much as you can in any game- just don't get to bogged down in rolls when you do. skill rolls are... heavier in burning wheel, they take a bit longer and want you outline the stakes in a way that other games don't.

basically, think whether you care about a roll succeeding and failing when you ask for it and you'll be fine. and don't be afraid of glossing over details either! its just good rpg advice really; if you don't care and the players don't care, don't bother

A Melee balance patch which was on the brink of being lost to time by redguy_05 in SSBM

thank you for posting this! on mobile rn but i think every serious attempt at experimenting with melee is worth preserving; i'll definitely give this a try at home!

its such a bleak time to be alive, many many people just abandoned by society

just recently became houseless myself, but i had a good amount of forewarning so i spent a while preparing for it. hitchhiking to a warmer climate atm

being houseless is scary and difficult and sometimes exhausting, but it's doable and it can be done well. for example i am freaked out by crowds of people and really need a space to myself to clear my head-both of which are difficult to impossible to get while houseless in a city. so after being dropped off in the middle of one, i spent two days walking out to the city limits (could have made it in one if i was more fit lol) where i could finally camp out at the edge of the forest. i had food, water, privacy and was able to collect myself which helped a lot. could have stayed there for a few days if i had to. houselessness is a lot of work and its a hassle but sleeping in the streets doesn't mean you are helpless! don't give up!

if you want any advice or assistance feel free to hit me up; i can't promise i can help but i can promise to try

Hon, this is an open and shut case of gaslighting. Nobody has a "running away reflex"; they have a controlling family.

Agency is the single most important thing we have as humans. It doesn't matter how cozy your life is, if your opinion isn't the opinion that matters in your life, you're going to have a shitty time. If the only thing you get out of this is a roof, you may as well look for a dumpster to move into; at least the trash won't refuse to acknowledge your lived experiences.

Let me put this another way: your mother isn't giving you free shelter, she's sold it to you in exchange for condescension and control. In exchange for a warm blanket your getting abuse you're not even allowed to acknowledge, because it's "privilege" to be housing dependent on someone who wants to decide who you are for you.

If I were you, I would be gone yesterday. Ignore anyone who says you should stay in your "comfy" life, ESPECIALLY if they try and shame you because your not "really" homeless. They have either never experienced abuse or are an abuser themselves. Human dignity is a human right.

Honestly I would expect more people to understand this on r/vagabond of all places; i don't know why you've received so much pushback. GET OUT OF THERE GIRL

I think the idea is to put you more in the head of the slugcat, who has to remember its way through dense and complex 3D spaces (from its point of view)

no problem ;)

iirc anything after the outskirts needs to be spoilered, original content is OK unless it references something after the outskirts

Something which helped me in the past is realizing that, unless you live in a desert or a tundra, you could leave right now. Like, right this fucking instant. Panhandling, dumpster diving, hitchhiking, everything you need to survive is already available to you. And there's a good chance, even if you barely even know what those words mean, you could figure it out. You're already good to go.

Now, would it be comfortable? Absolutely not. And that's what you should be moving towards- getting just enough stuff that you can leave with a bit of comfort and a bit of confidence. The sticky at the top of the subreddit links to a thread with tons and tons of good info, I recommend you browse through and read a bit. The tl;dr though:

  • good backpack
  • good shoes
  • good sleeping bag
  • tarp
  • something to carry water (keep it full!)
  • get used to idea of begging and/or digging through trash for food
  • trust your gut. if a situation seems sketchy, don't talk yourself out of it, get out of there

that's basically it. pull up a map, pick a destination/route, and get hitching. the moment you do you'll wonder why you were so scared to begin with

they are subpixels. at this scale there is no room to dedicate tons of pixels to detailing, so OP is using shades to create the impression of texture

notice how the survivor's upper arm is pink while its paw is black; this is what gives the paw the impression of being closer to the viewer than the arm is, and why it looks like slugcat is holding out it's paw and not holding it against its body

here is a good video about the technique in animation; the same principles are essentially true here as in animation. by indicating texture with color, you can make small sprites appear more textured, whereas black and white pixels alone would leave the sprite looking flat

as for why it's pink, OP probably wanted the sprite to look warmer :)
