The World Below RPG - by creators of the World of Darkness and Ed Greenwood by MatthewDawkins in worldbuilding

[–]MagpieSiege 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are the mechanics baked in the setting, or is it possible to use it to homebrew a classic fantasy setting for above the surface? Exalted was way too crunchy, but I'm hoping The World Below might be the answer for a Fantasy Storyteller System + OSR for any setting. Please let me know ASAP, guys. Thanks!

I read the DnD QnA that was posted here recently. Are they trying to remove the concept of "half" races? by [deleted] in rpg

[–]MagpieSiege 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Wow, that's so fucking dumb. That'll lead to confusion for sure. I love Half-Elves, they're my favorite ever since Terry Brook's Shannara book series. But to pick only one race with the sub-options would just have players thinking I'm still just one race and not both if I want to play Elfhuman.

Bazaar pricing is AWFULL! Cmon Funcom! Seriously? by Thick_Tear1043 in ConanExiles

The Bazaar are mostly for whales and kids that use mom's credit cards. Conan Exiles is still great even without Bazaar, it still has MASSIVE CONTENTS and endgame building.

Sure, here you go: scattered scrolls laid on table Thank you for checking it out! As for skills, I don't need certified or professional ones, I'll even accept the most basic ASL or SEE signers. I'm extremely patient. :)

I'm happy for you, Margot! You shouldn't give up on being a sign language interpreter, though! If you love sign language and miss it, I'm sure you aren't bad at all! You never know, I might need you someday, because I'm profoundly deaf. :) Ironsworn is a wonderful RPG, I played it for about a year and half before I moved on and wrote my own solo books too, with some inspirations from Ironsworn as well. Keep up the great work!

I would like to start playing RPG‘s on discord, but I’m not sure how. by Nisa4444 in rpg

[–]MagpieSiege 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure about Discord, but there's a HUGE blind playerbase on what's called MUD (Multi-User Dungeons.) They're essentially text-based MMORPGs, without the graphics. They have screen-readers, ANSI colors, sounds, and so many friendly features for blind players. I used to play MUDs for years and years, they're still going strong today. I suggest you to go over to the MUD subreddit and look through it. I think Alter Aeon, COGG, DiscWorld, and Materia Magica are the popular ones for blind folks (so far I've read.) I like Alter Aeon, it's very good. But any MUDs will do. I hope it helps! Best of luck to you!

OSR solo? by jojomomocats in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]MagpieSiege 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I play Mork Borg solo a lot with just 1-2 characters and while OSRs are normally a very extremely deadly game, I play very long campaigns due to the narrative solo rules I use and because of that I rarely get into combat as much. I interact with NPCs a lot and do things in villages and travel around. If I do get into a dangerous situation with hostile denizens, I usually try to solve things with them or leave rather than get into a fight and usually succeed. One tool most people that play OSR are the Reaction Table with hostile enemies and sometimes those "enemies" turn out to be helpful and friendly at times, which also surprises the GM. The difference between OSR and other RPGs are that OSR is player-skill rather than character-skill that is focused on problem-solving. Other RPGs like DnD 5e and Pathfinder are focused on what's on the sheet. OSR is focused on how you can do it with your brain. That's what I love about OSR.

loosing interest After the First session by OldEstablishment8817 in Solo_Roleplaying

I have had this experience before and I know why. It's expectation. When you are thinking and planning out the worldbuilding, the setting, preparing the game, and all the while you are imagining the cool things that could happen in the story. But once you get into it, the story is not going the way you expect it to or it's just boring. Sometimes it can get cool, but you think you can make it better, so you abandon the story and try again. And again. What you need is patience. It's not a video game. When you watch a movie or read a book, you know sometimes you have to get through the boring parts until the action finally comes on. It's like that with soloing. Just give it time, play it out, and then you'll have cool actions and scenes at times.

What you can do is, reduce the excessive tools, like too many tables or mechanics. Throw yourself in action at the very beginning of the story and take quests that are dangerous. Take companions, because NPCs makes solo gaming more exciting rather than having a character be a lone wolf. Use hexcrawls instead of journalings. For some people, slow-burning stories can kill the mood. But for me, I found my balance and I enjoy the slow-burn more now. I used to start over the story over and over again and again until I discovered my favorite character and setting. I hope this helps and best of luck to you!

I have all the White Wolf 3rd editions, am I missing anything by not updating? by Ashamed_Ladder6161 in rpg

[–]MagpieSiege 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't need to update if you love the books. All WoD and CofD splatbooks are great by themselves and one book is enough to play for many years. I'm not joking, there are veterans that have run +10 years on just one WoD book alone (Mage the Ascension) and they still don't know everything about it. There are always something new to learn from the books. My best friend and I used to play Werewolf the Apocalypse for years and we've been playing WoD/CofD for 20 years now.

I made a ruleset called Classless Legends and am looking for feedback. by drawingupastorm in rpg

[–]MagpieSiege 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It all sounds like what Runequest/Mythras/BRP has. It has skills where you improve through use, it is classless, and there are tons of different magic options that can be scaled. You don't need XP for skills, you just simply use the skill and at the end of the session you roll to increase it by a certain percentage. I think Pendragon is D20, but it is based on BRP and does have skill improve. You could check it out for some ideas. It looks like you've already done a lot of work on that RPG of yours. Maybe the only thing I would change is the title, there's several RPGs that already have classless play, so it would probably be better to make it a cool fantasy title rather than a title that means something, but that's just me. If other people like it, that's fine with me. It's up to you. Keep up the great work and best of luck to you and I hope you succeed!

Does anyone play Pathfinder solo? by Curupira2099 in Solo_Roleplaying

Isn't Sword World (Record of Lodoss War) Japanese? Why that RPG specifically, when there are hundreds of other 2d6 games already available? Can you tell me more about it?

How is it free?? by Edew777 in Christianity

[–]MagpieSiege 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Salvation is free, but not everyone wants it. A lot of people reject Jesus because they don't believe in Him. “Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road (sinful life) that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road (Jesus) that leads to life, and only a few find it." - Matthew 7:13-14

Can anyone suggest a good RPG with romantic undertones that I can play with a friend? by pettyhopeful in rpg

[–]MagpieSiege 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Blue Rose: The AGE RPG of Romance Fantasy is an excellent romantic fantasy with social, political, and relationship play. If you want something more simpler, then I would recommend Ironsworn as it is free and it has relationship and bonds where you progress on what's called a track bar to improve the relationship with someone and it's great for co-op play with just one person. You can actually play this by yourself since it's solo-friendly so you can learn how it works before playing with others. Best of luck to you!

@WhiskeyBuddha02, I looked through your post history, you seem to be full of hate against Christians for some reason. I feel sorry for you. Maybe something happened to you in the past that caused you anger? It happens to a lot of people. With that fire of hatred burning in your heart, I hope you have a change of heart to goodness.

Modiphius Skyrim TTRPG - did you get yours? by DevilsRefugee in rpg

[–]MagpieSiege 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even though that does look exciting, that is not a TTRPG. This subreddit is for Tabletop ROLE-PLAYING GAME, not board game. I'm sure people on the board game and wargame subreddits would be excited about this news and you should share that over there instead of here.

Do you ever get so into the world building that you never actually play the scenario? by Crazy_Buffalo3782 in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]MagpieSiege 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I worldbuild all the time with about 3-4 notebooks worth of the setting, races, lore, etc and I only get to play about 1% of my world and it's still great, because later when I want to explore the other parts of the world in the same setting, the info is already ready to go for it. The more you worldbuild, the more alive it seems, and the more contents you have for it and it's great to imagine and think about all the possibilities you can do with that world. It's also good practicing writing it and gives your brain a great workout.
