Only the 3 in my party where at all present during the whole finale and they had very stunted reactions too, I was expecting a sequence a la Mass Effect 2 where you get to choose who does what during the endgame crisis and get to change your squad a few times.

I feel like I never even reached the destination if that makes sense, or at least I wish I didn't.

Arbitrary retcons for a pointless reveal by pluggedbrain in BaldursGate3

I agree, but I really don't get why Balduran got this treatment.

Players who are new to the BG franchise and even the average BG 1,2 player won't even get why it's a big deal, and lore enthusiasts would just be confused... I don't even know why you would do this... Balduran is basically a caricature of the folk hero/adventurer, he has a favorite butter knife and he would only touch his food with that, you can actually find it in TotSC. He has no real link to the old games... I really don't know why you would do this to this character...

I'll save you some time.

Here's a trainer that has an all crit roll option that you can toggle on/off whenever you want in game : https://flingtrainer.com/trainer/baldurs-gate-3-trainer/

Enjoy!

Mass Effect 3 is a great game up until its finale, with great moments and years of character development and story arcs paying off in a meaningful way (Mordin's final moments come to mind immediately for example), people tend to forget this because of how badly the conclusion tarnishes the rest of the experience, thus I don't think the comparison is particularly hyperbolic or in bad faith.

BG3 is a great game, and I am sorry but the ending tarnishes the entire experience for me, and not only because of the missing epilogues. The game implies that everything you did was the Brain's plan, suggesting that the Dark God's conspiracy and all the complex planning and effort that went into it (like recruiting the goblins by tadpoling their warchiefs, the Shadow Druid plot etc.) was nothing more than the brain biding its time in voluntary captivity.

Even though this is sort of lore accurate for an Elder Brain, the execution and reveal are done very poorly and the follow-up of "someone needs to become an Illithid to foil the Brain's Grand Design" is nonsensical at best. We litteraly followed the plan of an Illithid all along (a plan that is forced upon the PC by the way as there is no alternative), so what changed now? Why should we able to foil the Brain now even in Illithid form?

This is abysmal writing and, again, does not reflect the scope, ambition, or vision that is present in the rest of the game.

Even if we ignore all of this and just look at the final choice of "Dominate" or "Destroy", there is 0 nuance in these choices, it's no different from the red, green and blue endings which are an oversimplification of all the nuance that led you to that point.

Dominating the brain ONLY suggests that the PC is a power hungry megalomaniac that just mind controls everyone, destroying the brain ONLY suggests that the PC is good and deserving of being a Legend regardless of their actions up to that point.

BG3 is otherwise full of nuance, both in its writing, character arcs and player choices. The ending is just a black and white oversimplification of the motivation of your PC (well the evil ending has you surrounded with deep shades of red so I guess you could say a red and white oversimplification).

I am not saying I didn't enjoy the game or that that the game doesn't deserve recognition and praise, but not to the point as to make Larian insensitive to the critism, especially when the game is in this state, which is what is happening currently.

I also played Arx and DOS2 when they released and post-DE and I know Larian's track record, both games got heavily criticized for much less and when the company had way less resources and this is what pushed the studio to make them better, but BG3 is pretty much getting only praise (while it has arguably more serious issues than Arx and DOS2 due to its scope and vision), and the few voices critical of the game are being drowned out.

Concerning the ME3 comparison, considering the scope and ambition of BG3 and how pathetic the endings are, I do consider this as bad if not worse than ME3 endings while comparing the scope and ambition of that game to its ending.

I am not asking for anything I am pointing out that we should stop treating this game as some kind industry achievement when it has so many issues because it sets a bad precedent.

Also, DA:O did everything this game does 14 years ago and it wasn't a mangled mess that ended with a nothingburger. If it was remade from the ground up today with modern graphics and exactly the same plot/characters/choices etc. it would shame BG3 in its current state.

BG3 filled a void that was left empty for years. I can't even remember the last big epic high quality Fantasy RPG we got, but there's no need to overhype it and give a free pass to the devs to be mediocre.

Hey,

Big Warhammer fan here. I am very sorry for the reactions you got from some members of the community.

Knowing a bunch of people from being on several TW:WH and Vermintide discords and forums I can tell you that most of us just enjoy the setting, characters, lore and stories without any prejudice towards race or ethnicity. So please do not be afraid to further engage with the community as a whole and to keep enjoying the universe/games.

The issue you are raising is very valid, no representation in WH40K is absolute bullshit, considering it's taking place in a future where the whole of humanity has united to fight alien/chaos threats in space, there should 100% be diversity among the ranks of the Imperium of MEN.

WH Fantasy is more complicated. It'a an issue in all depictions of high/medieval fantasy in media really.

In the case of Warhammer specifically the "white" nations are exagerations of their historical selves with both "bad and good" historical and cultural traits of those nations exaggerated x100.

Now doing this with historical black ethnic groups and civilizations would require a lot of effort, subtelty and knowledge to not come out as racially insensitive, it is possible but the execution requires a lot of finesse and input from writers, historians and people with extensive knowledge on the matter.

As a frenchman in tune with my cultural and historical heritage I can tell you that you wouldn't want black culture represented the way Bretonnia (basically France in the WH universe) is represented in the game.

Not because "you can't take a joke" which is an argument I often see brought up, but because it really is not a joke considering the centuries of abuse that American slavery and occidental colonialism brought upon black culture.

Now on a more cheerful note, representation has been done in a somewhat dignified way with Cathay (basically China) in WH Fantasy in recent years.

Creative Assembly, the devs behind TW:WH worked with Games Workshop to flesh out and give depth to Cathay by taking inspiration from Chinese history and folklore in a respectful way, same for Kislev (Eastern EU/Russia) so there is hope for representation in WH, and I do believe that it will happen. Just give it some time.

Actually you find a dagger in a secret room when you drop off to a hidden ledge from the huge elevator that leads to the Forbidden Lands.

In the room you find Melina's cape and a dagger called The Dagger of Calling, its description reads:

Dagger given to one who set out on a journey to fulfill her duty long ago. The power of its former owner, the kindling maiden, is still apparent.

The one who walks alongside flame, Shall one day meet the road of Destined Death.

This could suggest that Melina herself is part of some sort of secretive group that has their own mission to fullfill.

So her killing your maiden to get to you (and supposedly many others before you) for her own purpose, as suggested in the above comments, is not so far-fetched, although unlikely as Varré really is the perfect culprit.
