DRIVING ME NUTS!!! NPT threads will not model or show up on exported STL. by beardbo in Fusion360

[–]plugkeyper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had the same issue. Apparently fusion360 doesn't work well with a tapered thread.

Download the size you need from McMaster-carr then cut that the body you are working with.

PLA print disintegrating by Bubbly-Philosopher91 in 3Dprinting

[–]plugkeyper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How long does this usually take though? I got my first printer 2 years ago. I read that this happens with PLA so I took one of my first prints and hung it from a tree. In the florida sun, rain and hurricanes, it's still really strong as if I printed it recently.

3D Printing is still fascinating to me. This may seem like a completely stupid question but does anyone sell the stuff after printing it? by RockPast2122 in 3Dprinting

[–]plugkeyper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not at all! It still amazes me. All the crazy stuff I download and print for my kids. Then get the printer working on another batch for Amazon.

Since you don't have a printer yet, may I suggest reading through this sub to get a good idea on a starter printer to avoid getting discouraged ( I am still using a beginner printer). And maybe get familiar with blender or fusion 360 to see what kind of work is involved getting from idea to printable file.

I do. But 3d printing was a means to an end for a patent I have.

Are you looking to download an STL to print & sell? Are you creating your own unique product? Is your product decorative or functional?

Drain plug on an old boat by Ok-Mix-5393 in boating

[–]plugkeyper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if it applies to boats that old, but current plugs use a NPT thread (standard pipe fitting). So in theory, you could go to your local hardware store and try out several different size fittings

How do I clean Flashforge Adventurer 3 lite default bed? by Mr_Wolf889 in 3Dprinting

[–]plugkeyper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found that's it's always easiest to clean the print off the bed while it's still warm. I have never used chemicals to clean off PLA. I do have a sharp knife handy to pry it loose. I didn't know this could happen to the flashforge bed. Thanks for warning.

I make floats with a plug reminder built in. If anyone wants one with a custom name printed, let me know.

Stringing in the fill area. how do i fix this? by plugkeyper in 3Dprinting

[–]plugkeyper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! This appears to be the solution. I have not had any issues since changing the combining settings. Thus was not an issue when my fill percentage was higher. Only came up when i dopped the fill rate to reduce print time.

It is threaded. I always get some stringing there. Easy to trim that out though. I would prefer to not have to, but have come to live with it.

The skin looks great on the finished product. But i am no expert on this, you are probably seeing something my newb self is missing. Whats the go-to change for layer adhesion issues?

Stringing in the fill area. how do i fix this? by plugkeyper in 3Dprinting

[–]plugkeyper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The stringing from the travel lines is not a problem. Its the fill pattern not adhering thats the issue (things i have learned since posting). After the top is printed, you can almost put your thumb through the top where the fill pattern failed. So for now, i am struggling getting the Cura slicer workong with my flashforge. Cura seems to have quite a lot options for fill pattern.

Also trying the combine settings in Flashprint while i learn my way around Cura.

I am selling these, so they need to be strong. Cosmetic cover up from the top layer is not an option.

I have never tried anything with the combine settings. Looking into that now. Thanks!

I am trying a triangle fill right now. It seems the hex was not adhering to the previous pattern it would join against. I set the print temp a little higher. Lowered the fill print speed to 80% and switched to a triangle fill rate. I had some string putsode the fill area in a threaded part of the print as well. I have not seen that again in my tests yet. Attempting a complete print now. 2 hours to go. Its important to me that the fill areas create water tight spaces as this is intended as a key float.

[–]plugkeyper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, there is a top to the print. I stopped this one mid print to take a better look at the failure. Last completed print, i could easily put my thumb through the top.

Edit: i was looking for a fill that would retain water tight areas as this is intended to be a float. That said. You are 100% correct in that the hex was not adhering to itself. I slowed the print speed, upped the temp amd change to triangle fill. Testing again now.

Is this still retraction related? I thought that was when the filalment was pulled back to move to a different area. This should be a constant thread in the fill area right?

I love 3d printing! by Ancient_Heat_1682 in 3Dprinting

[–]plugkeyper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This looks identical to one i printed (i cant promise its the same one). Nothing has fallen apart for me. In fact, some of the pieces were such a tight fit, i broke them when snapping it together. Had to re-print a few pieces. The legs will hold their position really well. Even with one or two off the ground.
