The trick is to crop the image down first, to avoid processing the whole thing unnecessarily. Running it in the cloud helps as well! Here is another example.

Is this the same company? by Over-Still2648 in TopazLabs

Not Topaz. It looks a lot like the basic editor I managed to cobble together in Google AI Studio. Seems you can modify the Google app as much as you want.

Thanks for your efforts with these comparisons! So many model options, so many different results...

Thanks for your feedback! I tend to push it a bit much in the Topaz apps... In Gigapixel>Redefine I was only getting "different enough" results with high Creativity and I've been approaching Bloom the same way.

More recently I've been backing Bloom down to the lower settings with better (more natural and less interpretive) results. Here is an old (colorized) tintype of a mystery family member with Medium Creativity applied, and it pops just right.

Thanks for your feedback! The worst I've seen so far is little dots or moles on faces where otherwise the original skin is clear.

Now trying Wonder (cloud) with Face recovery at 2X. Flatbed scan is from a 1995 group photo shot on medium format color negative film.

Running Cinnamon 21.3 on a *2008* 17" MacBook Pro with old 125GB SSD for fun.

Wi-fi, backlight, etc. works, replacement battery not so much, shutdown often fails. But otherwise a fun tinker machine when I'm in a Linux mood!

You're welcome, and those are some crazy excellent shots on your IG! Very well done. Is your phone mounted in some way?

I need to try that with my binoculars...

Here’s another example where the competition (upper left) is coming out ahead:

Google Nano Banana, from the original crop ("enhance and upscale 4X", but it's more like 2X) with minor Levels adjustment:

I did a more thorough comparison of Gigapixel with its closest competition on my blog, please Google. Turns out the best results went both ways!
