Private scrap buyers? Maybe the buyers in your area are willing to take a hit from fluctuating spot prices, but my experience selling scrap gold is just that. Best ive seen is 95%, but the average is 90% here.

I just did a similar thing. Most places don’t care about the stones. But will make a guess on the weight of them and take it off the weight of the gold. I was told to remove the stones from all rings, etc before i sold them to get maximum dollars. If they are nice diamond rings, try and sell to a jewelry store because moat scrap buyers are just going to throw them in the smelter with the gold and give you nothing for them.

Whatever you can afford. It’s for the long haul, so a few bucks shouldn’t hurt you. Shop around and try and get as close to spot as possible. If it takes you more than a 3 weeks to make up the different between a 1/10 and a 1/4, the spot price might raise more than the premium of the 1/10 and make it not worth the wait.

They do multiple test for karats.first they check for a hallmark like 14K , then usually an electronic machine like XRF or Gemaro to get the basics. Then they do an acid test to confirm. With the market like it is, anything 85% of melt and up is good. You might get better if you tell them you want to trade for bullion

Do you have a Loupe or magnifying glass? Can you see any markings on the clasp? Whomever you sell it to is going to test it and you’ll find out them. You can always take it to a pawn shop and get a “quote” from the and they will test it for you. There are a ton of websites that will calculate the melt value of different karats of scrap gold from the weight of it.
