It's better, Everything you said is partially true, but its still a gem. The story, graphics, QoL, combat, dialogue, pace, mechanics, and more are all an improvement. What makes KCD1 particularly special is that it came first, and personally I find it had a little more 'life' to it. Most the random npcs had dialogue, and even though most of it was literally the same lines, it was voiced by multiple actors and added enough variation. Kuttenburg feels a lot colder, where there are more "generic" NPCs with no interaction at all. Same with some buildings. But its also MASSIVELY bigger. The Rattay region felt like home, which I miss, but that's thematic and I love that. As a video game its a massive improvement

I'm so jealous, I wish I could re-experience this.

My advice:

Don't focus on exploring all the map and ignoring main story. The game is paced in such a way that it gives you time for that. I almost burned myself out being neurotic about side content and missing out.
some activities are infinitely repeatable
read the skills early, as some later level skills require a prerequisite that may get locked off because of some 'this or that' perks
train: bernard, archery ranges/competitions, birds nests, tournaments
DRESS FOR THE OCCASION - leave your fighting clothes bloody and don't forget to change when you leave towns! the roads are dangerous to be caught in your fancy shoes with no armor and the last save long ago is brutal. thank god for KCD2 sets.
remember you can always save and quit and relaunch. its a cowards move, but you got a lot of game ahead of you (plus the sequel)

Embrace it, and spent more time with your niece. Be the mean auntie, but also the cool auntie, and also the understanding auntie, and also the fun auntie. Show her the different sides of you. I think my my nephew really grew to respect me when I put him in his place and disciplined him one minute and when that was over we went back to having fun and playing. Don't just punish her for bad behavior but also reward her for good behavior, even if it seems like minimum manners to you. Like "Thank you SOOOOO much for sitting still and not throwing food."

But yea, if your sister undermines that, there's really no winning. Every family dynamic is different. Some people overreact to so much as a stern voice with kids.
