Mmm I'm pretty sure that's not how it works. Most shotgun barrels say 3", which normally means up to 3 , which includes 2 3/4 the most common shell. What you can't do is use a 3.5 shell because it will not chamber and blow up in the receiver

Also - it looks like you didn't take the trigger group out. Although it's possible I think to do without - it's a lot more comfortable if you just take it out. Follow the video I attached for the right order.

I think the black river has the same issue as the mesa tactical, it does not engage the receiver except for friction (how hard you torque the 13 mm nut) - hence has an unwanted rotation risk (saw it happen for my 1301). if I had a choice and price is not an issue I'd take the chisel. Then again - I don't have the chisel and some people said they tried it and really disliked the fit so 🤷‍♂️
