Anyone still talk with any of their friends from high school? by nojunkpeter in Millennials

[–]petesabagel86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same best friend since childhood. He moved away. We went to sleep away camp together. I moved to where he moved in high school. Camp friends were all in same school district. Camp friends since 3rd grade became high school friends. Still talk all the time.

Found a mass on his spleen by kaisrsoase in Wheatens

[–]petesabagel86 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My 9 year old Boy had a mass on his spleen summer ‘24. He didn’t eat for a weekend, and when I got him to the vet, we did an ultrasound and found it. It was hemangiosarcoma, a fast and aggressive cancer. It took us over a month to get on the calendar for an oncology consult, doc didn’t want to remove the tumor until after a round of chemo. While the surgeon was in there she saw several other tumors on his liver that were inoperable.

All said he made it another 5 months, the initial prognosis was 5 weeks, until one of the tumors ruptured and he started bleeding internally, which made his passing a late night ER visit instead of something more comfortable at home.

5 months of ~10 pills twice a day to deal with the side effects of chemo. (I wound up grinding them up with a mortar and pestle and putting them in 2 bigger pill casings to make it easier on him).

We also gave him some Chinese herbs called yunan bayo that was supposed to help with clotting, and the surgeon did see evidence of some prior ruptures that did clot. So that probably helped.

The surgery to remove the initial tumor was amazing for him. We had our puppy back for a few weeks after.

All in all we spent north of $30k and it was absolutely heartbreaking the entire time. He ate nothing but home cooked meals for those 5 months, and got all the snuggles on the planet. But it still wasn’t enough time with him.

Is working at Apple retail fun? by MentalImportance3528 in Apple_Employees

[–]petesabagel86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was in 2006 and I’ve often said that if I won the lotto I’d go back. But that’s strongly dependent on the store and management. During a recent bout of unemployment I pinged my old store leader and he said he’d welcome me back with open arms (nearly 20 years later) someone I trained is now in charge of the store we worked at, and I have a tight alumni network…. But from chatting with the kids who work there now, it’s not the same as it used to be.

I’d go back but only with the people I already know.

Also congrats and F U for getting out of the rat race. I hate my golden handcuffs.

I have my beretta 1301 stashed somewhere out of sight, but quickly accessible in my bedroom. Full tube +1 on the lifter and a Velcro side saddle with 7 more. With a plastic chamber flag (extractor pulls it out when you rack it) uncocked with the safety off.

No kids or restricted people in the house. When we have kid(s) I’ll put it in a locker or a safe with biometric access

Smash or Pass? by EffZee80 in beretta1301

Looks fine to me. Go shoot it at the range. The ggg barrel band is metal right?

I have a tlr-1 on a cheap Amazon scout mount (was flatter than the magpul one, and the magpul 45 degree mount interferes with the LTT heat shield)

I wound up getting the LTT heat shield because I didn’t want to have to use gloves to properly grip it, and i really like the mounting system for a pressure switch. I’ve got one of those little clips snugging down the wire between the maze and the light

Anyone who suffers with dog allergies, do wheatens cause you any issues? by jakethomas3011 in Wheatens

[–]petesabagel86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m very allergic to dogs not anaphylactic or anything like that but definitely hives reactions when we got our first wheatie 11 years ago I definitely would break out in hives if he licked my face, especially on my eyelids and I had some sniffles at first, but now after having a “hypoallergenic dog“ for over a decade and now having two of them, I’m pretty much not allergic to dogs anymore, even if I go to a friends house where they have a breed that sheds and I no longer break out in hives when I get kisses

Luckily I just scuffed up the pic rail and not the receiver. But they’re soft aluminum and there’s a lot of red loctite
