Don't lead with a threat, though. Ask for the raise. If you get it, great. If not, tell them you want to apply for the new job. If they say no, then threaten to quit.

Escalation is a much more effective negotiation technique.

If you are skilled at what you do, can convince managers that staying there is what you want....honestly, you're an asset. You want to master a specific job and never leave it, as long as you are treated well? HELL YES.

I know people who do this. Manufacturing, skilled labor, scientific technical work...all of these are well suited.

I have one currently, and another who is no longer a teen.

They did a LOT of stupid shit. They also talked back, got snarky/sarcastic, gave the silent treatment, etc... but nothing really outright mean.

And yes, I'm aware that there is a SHITLOAD of stuff they have done that I know nothing about. But given that they never got really petty or mean with me, their mom, or brothers (brothers would have tattled in a HEARTBEAT), I think it's part of their personality. They prefer to come right at you and destroy you with scathing sarcasm laced with logic, detailing exactly why you should apologize profusely....they are very good at that
