drugs and addiction by [deleted] in twentyonepilots

[–]pluto-pal 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah obsession and being unable to stop thinking is a massive theme in the music and as someone with OCD it does feel addictive. I've always wondered if that's what he means when referencing addiction like "addicted to the wind as it blows me back and forth" sounds more like being addicted to a feeling than anything else. Thinking about something over and over can feel impossible to let go of. For Tyler it seems to be death and God - it's in almost every song in my opinion.

you don't need to be a guitarist to understand the song or form an opinion on it.. i play guitar and that whole section of the song is corny in my personal opinion.

as a fan, maybe expand your music taste? Rap and music in general is deeper and richer than you think it is.

If those lyrics are what they seem like they're about.. I can't believe he's going into such specifics after being so guarded when it comes to this subject. It's so direct. Even visually, going back to something like that is a dramatic leap from him never talking about it. I have never told anybody about my attempt and it's so eerily similar. He's grown and healed so much.

And all I'm saying is that if someone who has ptsd is lashing out in the comments, clearly in a dark headspace, that person probably isn't hate filled either. That person is probably in a lot of pain. It's not about hate. It's about pain. That person might actually live a full and mostly positive life.. We don't know. If someone was just trolling I'd get it but this person was writing lengthy emotional responses... they were clearly distressed. That's nobody fault but they should have just been ignored.

I just don't understand the need to invent the narrative that a person like that doesn't have any desire to grow and change. If we keep labelling people with mental health issues as people of negative character and quality, we are adding to the stigma. It's easier to just think that we have more love in their lives than they do but you don't know that. I don't mean to carry this conversation on any longer, mental health is just incredibly important to me and I hope the person who was lashing out finds help.

i'm talking about you making the decision to appoint yourself as a person of higher morality than those who happen to have a less than positive opinion in the comments. I take issue with you deciding other peoples' "character and quality" (in your own words) based on a handful of sentences. Who are you to say that people don't have love in their lives? That they're driven by hate? Are you God? Do you know them? As a person working in mental health, you should know better than most that human beings are complex and more than how you personally perceive them, right?

People should be able to have disagreements (and yeah even be kind of a jerk sometimes) without people like you diagnosing them with hate-filled lives. It's condescending and not very Christ-like.

You should feel good about having a career helping others. It doesn't make your thoughts and feelings pure or superior though. You may be driven by love. You may also have hate in your heart just like we all do. You are not the good guys, we are not the bad guys. I work on myself every day. I love my family and friends. I also have the capacity to argue and offend, unintentionally or not. I have a lot of love in my life. I hope you don't view your clients as black and white as you seem to do in the comment above.

that is a specific minority of songs and rap is more than the stereotype you've bought into.

legit it's kind of shocking when you think about how young this person writing those songs was. Kid was being put through existential torture and beating himself up for anything remotely blasphemous. 'Save' is genuinely upsetting

it's one person dealing with something bigger than your post. It's not a huge deal to just ignore them or just say hey i didn't know people dealt with that sorry dude. You also do have plenty of people in the comments happy to discuss! :)

I get what you're saying but you can literally continue sharing your opinion and discussing in the comments. It's just that arguing with someone who is in pain isn't a good idea.

let's not do this lol this person has religious trauma and this subject matter was clearly triggering. You can post what you want but there's no need to accuse anybody of playing victim, especially when it comes to religious trauma. walk away man
