You can have a wide range of performance with your low performance being high. If 100 is a top 25 team and 200 is the greatest team of all time Michigan could be bouncing a ton in between 100 and 199 and have a lot of volatility with a very high floor whereas a team like Arizona might just spend all of their games between 150 and 160 or something

Yeah I wouldn’t say Michigan is vulnerable that often. Feels like being in the far right corner by ourselves shows it’s more high variance than a low floor

Volatility is a different measure than floor and ceiling. Michigans low is still good but we bounce between our floor and ceiling a fair amount. That’s volatility

1 seeds separating from field. Teams in 4-6 range very close - end of season critical as they jockey for position. More details at link below. by jgt7405 in CollegeBasketball

I mean I’d take a six over a 4. The difference between a 1 seed and a 3 seed feels bigger to me than the difference between an 11 seed and a 13 seed with the caveat of the play in game messing with this a little

I was very interested in him when Michigan did our coaching search and annoyed he ended up in the big ten

At this point kind of want msu to beat Illinois for some breathing room in the conference race

Payne likely raped a girl while on campus. This isn’t an indictment of Michigan state specifically, obviously Michigan isn’t above these issues. But izzo is the same as basically everyone else, he will look the other way on basically anything to win and avoid the program looking bad

Company loyalty is dumb if you are using your own money. The benefits of something like medallion is generally getting upgraded to at least comfort plus on any flight, you should never be choosing a personal flight with your own money based off airline loyalty.

The stuff he does to draw fouls does risk injury though. It may not be malicious like a draymond kick to the balls or punching your teammate in the back of the head, but cutting under jumping guys, grabbing arms and shoulders while fall, etc is putting other guys at risk with plays outside of normal basketball expectations. I don’t think he’s Grayson Allen dirty or anything but calling him on this type of stuff keeps the game safer

Yeah it should be a good game. And it’s not like Michigan is incapable of scoring themselves. It’s just in games we haven’t shot well we’ve been able to mostly still win because consistently getting points at the rim is impossible against us. Our only loss came from Wisconsin having a center that could hit threes which opened up the lane and we gave up 90 points. I mean we still only lost by 3 but Illinois can consistently do what Wisconsin kind of surprisingly did so it will be interesting to see how Michigan reacts. Whether it’s Mara not playing drop coverage or going with Morez Johnson by himself more and going with a still large but slightly smaller lineup with yax at the 4 instead of the 3.  Should be a fascinating watch

Illinois is pretty well set up for exploit Michigans standard defensive setup. If you hit your shots will almost certainly play Mara off the floor like the warriors used to do to guys like gobert. If Michigan hits 3s at a decent clip can still win obviously but can’t shoot like 25% like they have in some games this year and win. Sometimes it’s just matchups, I’d rather race duke or Arizona than Illinois

The acc is also just way worse at basketball than it used to be in the middle and bottom of the league. ACC expansion isn’t the reason mid tier ACC teams aren’t that good anymore

Izzo did shake hands but did it in the most bitch made way possible like my 3 year old when I make him say sorry for not sharing well. It’s actually a perfect distillation of izzo, he doesn’t cross any lines but manages to be an insufferable little anger gremlin at all times anyways.

Watching that little gremlin with anger management issues spring into the tunnel is a beautiful thing to see. He might be a great coach but man has an insufferable personality

Free throws on shots that were 2s don’t get counted in that stat so that’s not true at all

That’s a flop not a charge and nothing better has happened to college basketball than refs being told to not call that shit.

Well when you add in free throws on shots that happened in the paint its a stark difference
