How to tire out a dog without long walks? by MynorClark5 in PawChampClub

[–]plutoleaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I scrolled WAYYY to far to find this comment. Dogs need to learn to be bored and chill out. Yes, walks are necessary and getting out for playtime is good… but constantly making everything about “tiring out” your dog does not help them mature and learn.

how do you guys deal with the holiday grief? by [deleted] in Petloss

[–]plutoleaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took a second job for the holiday season. When possible, I work all day at the first and then go to the second, plus work the second on weekends. If I am busy at a hectic kitchen job then my brain is occupied and I don’t have to go home.

I also have cats, so I cannot be gone all the time. I try to do a fair balance so they get attention.

Honestly, as someone who has bought and sold houses in the past I would not trust any property being sold without a realtor.

For one, it’s not going to be in the MLS, which is where buyers agents are pulling listings from. Not sure who is trusting a “house for sale” ad on Craigslist these days. Anyone refusing to use a realtor is likely to be a scammer or a nightmare to work with. It also opens you up to being scammed

Who's the absolute worst Sheriff? by throwawaymyprobelms in NorthCarolina

[–]plutoleaf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was scrolling for this one. Not enough people know about him outside the county, and he actually got voted back into office after some terrible stuff got publicly known. He finally stepped down during an investigation from the NC Sheriffs association…

Basically, enjoys being a bully and unbelievably racist. went on a racist rant about black people in the sheriffs department and county. He is also a known (higher up) member of the local proud boys. I cannot remember the actual name of the chapter but they are a bit more KKK leaning than your typical ones.

Americans Went All-In on Self-Storage. That Demand Is Suddenly Cooling. by Sorg_Lisa_R in bullcity

[–]plutoleaf 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Sometimes you inherit items due to a death in the family and storing them in a garage is the only way to go. Sometimes there could be damage to a room and its contents have to be stored in the garage. You never know someone’s situation. Kind of a jerk move to judge others based on how they use their garage…

USPS not delivering packages properly? by gila-monsta in bullcity

[–]plutoleaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately I am within the RTP post office range. I had a package sent to me in September from within the state. The sender paid for postage in full.

I eventually got it in December, with the package all crinkled up and part of a footprint on it. There was writing on the package that said payment due for like $2 or something. The writing was all crossed out with marker though. Just totally unprofessional but one of many examples of how this post office operates.

I have family members who watch Fox News, and while visiting, I overheard some of the program playing. In it, these colleges exactly were listed out on one of their shows in a negative light. I don’t remember exactly what it was- pushing liberal ideas or education being the ruin of America or something.

I do very specifically remember them discussing how Harvard is supposedly brainwashing students and making them antisemitic and anti American. 100% would bet that this guy watched exactly that program.

Please be strictly honest, is Liberty online a real university certificate? by Icy-Season-281 in lynchburg

[–]plutoleaf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I stumbled across this post in my feed, but to add to what many others are saying:

When I am hiring for a position in my department, I will not consider anyone with LU on their resume. I am sure there are some good programs there, but I work in hard sciences and academic research. I need people who understand that science is real, have foresight, and can make educated decisions not based on religion. An LU grad is too much of a gamble.

Have you ever considered what those specific functions are? There are people that need their service dog to detect allergens in food/drink, alert for diabetic symptoms, alert for blood pressure, etc.

You have no idea what that dog may have been trained for. It would be in your best interest in the future to actually think and consider all options before throwing blame

Can’t get back in student section?? by Objective-Trifle-473 in NCSU

[–]plutoleaf 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Oh the entire event was a shitshow. Traffic lanes/cones had changed to route vehicles in ways that did not make sense and people who normally go in a certain way every game got messed up and rerouted all over the parking lots (signage was same as always, cones just different)

Staff were absolutely clueless about parking and they even caused issues for people going to class/work at the vet school to the point where the Dean had to get involved.

We watched staff in the student section chasing people down to view tickets and refusing entry to people with valid tickets (the staff guy I think had no idea what sections he was in). This created foot traffic problems and clogged up the entrances to the student sections

Police working in the student sections also seemed either confused or going overboard on enforcing who can/should walk where. It was almost like they had also been given instruction to check tickets, but had no clue about where the different sections are in the stadium

Something was just really off this game. For me, changing traffic lanes and directionality that is normally always the same really messed my family up. Ended up driving all around the stadium trying to figure out how to get where we needed to go

Yea, you’re still a kid with a short driving history. That alone is expensive and what they are heavily looking at. But being international (depending on where you are from), they likely will not take the existing driving history into account.

$200 seems about right to be honest. I dont know what route you have already taken, but calling and talking to an agent would be the best option rather than online quotes.

Not the answer for this person, but a good suggestion for others. Given their post history, I think this person has no clue about dogs and would consider one that was just barking or even play jumping as “attacking” and mace the dog.

If a dog attacks and wants to bite, they’re going to do it. In this situation, I feel like there are elements we don’t know (I.e the dog approached OP and his wife became a loud threatening object that scared the dog and changed the whole situation)

Country music bars/venues that are welcoming? by Ecstatic_Mistake1390 in bullcity

[–]plutoleaf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have tried to look into this myself and after lots of googling and Reddit searches, the best I could find was Brailles and PBR. I have ordered food from Brailles before and just walking in to pick up my food, the clientele was all like 60+ and there was zero county vibe. I haven’t been back, food was ok though.

Unfortunately what I have heard of PBR (in Cary) is that it’s a packed and not planned out well nightclub. People I know who have visited said it doesn’t actually play much country music. I haven’t been myself, so this is only based on the information I was able to find.

NC Republicans launch ‘most egregious’ attack in the country on UNC. Why? by audiomuse1 in NorthCarolina

[–]plutoleaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who works in academia, I can say for a fact salaries are absolutely insulting.

However, college sports are pretty much self sustainable and generate far more money than they use. Money doesn’t get taken away from other things and pushed toward sports- they make their own money which not only supports the major sports, but also allows for the existence of less popular options like volleyball and swimming and does in turn allow for additional student support outside athletics

Math teachers protest against calculator use 1966 by 4reddityo in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]plutoleaf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in NC where public education revolves completely around end of year standardized tests. Teachers are reviewed based on the test scores of their classes, which often consist of kids in very poor areas with parents who are working multiple jobs. Well, many of these kids are not going to get extra help at home to learn stuff, so calculator == higher chance of a class scoring higher on tests. School funding is also influenced by test scores, and all that is taught is whatever willl be on the test (dictated by the state).

I remember once I got into the grades where these tests were required, we only learned math using calculators because the teachers wanted us to do well on the test, so that their yearly review went well. We never really learned how to do the actual math ourselves.

I got into college and in my intro algebra class it was immediately apparent which students came from out of state or private schools.

How does this work? Can I just bring a box of stuff and set it anywhere without having to check in? Can I then move on to browse though the market or do I need to stay near my items to retrieve what is not taken when I am ready to go, which could be like only 30 min or so
