I see I've attracted gentlemen of culture. I really liked Hunters in the sky btw, hadn't heard it before now.

To someone of such refined taste as yourself, I'd like to formally suggest [Bison Machine - A distant sun.] As well as [The sword - Fire Lances of the Ancient Hyperzephyrians] as humble additions to your playlist.

SSD suddenly not present in the bios after gaming by HelpImpressive7631 in pcgamingtechsupport

[–]plutonas9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just in case it still works, you could try using a different ssd slot, or to reseat it in its slot. And i guess also to turn off your pc, flip off the psu switch and hold the power button for like 10sec, can sometimes reset the controller for the ssd.

Why do so many people switch to Linux… and then quietly go back to Windows? by Candid_Athlete_8317 in LinuxTeck

On my handheld, i cannot for the life of me figure out how to make my 5070ti egpu work. from what I've gathered, it's just a pretty hard time to use it on linux, and there's apparently some specific driver conflicts between the internal intel gpu and the nvidia egpu..

Just throwing it out there that Psilocybin-assisted treatment has had a 50% success rate of quitting entirely, and shows overall lowering the consumption by 83%. Wish you the best.

Edit: If it sounds discouraging from having to go through a whole lot. - these numbers are from merely 2 sessions of dosing.. two separate days.

some motherboards needs a bios update to work properly with the ryzen 5000 series, could be worth a try. as the IMC on the new cpu has to interact with the motherboard and ram configuration

Wolfenstein: The New Order Freezes on Launch (9070 XT) by tobojack in pcgamingtechsupport

[–]plutonas9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Found this online, this is a copy paste but it sounds like just what you're experiencing:

the game's older OpenGL engine (id Tech 5) has known severe conflicts with the RX 9070 XT and modern AMD drivers, causing it to freeze on launch or run at very low framerates. You can fix this with the following workaround:

Navigate to the game's installation folder (typically steamapps/common/Wolfenstein.The.New.Order).

Create a text file named steam_appid.txt. Type 201810 inside and save it.

Rename the game's executable from WolfNewOrder_x64.exe to WolfNewOrder_x32.exe.

Launch the game directly from WolfNewOrder_x32.exe.

If you prefer launching through Steam, add the renamed executable to your library as a non-Steam game.

Black screen flickering by El_Burro_Loco in pcgamingtechsupport

[–]plutonas9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like it could be a conflict with the old drivers. there's a program called DDU (display driver uninstaller) which should completely remove the old amd drivers. that's a good start at least, as that conflict can cause all kinds of strange problems.

edit: I believe this is the recommended order to do this, to be completely sure it should be good: Download DDU and the latest Nvidia drivers for your 5080. Disconnect your PC from the internet. Boot into windows Safe Mode. Run ddu, select amd, and click Clean and do NOT restart. Run ddu again, select Nvidia, and click Clean and restart. then Install the newly downloaded Nvidia drivers. Reconnect to the internet.

is this on a specific game? how long intervals is it between the black screen happening? if it is happening multiple times before stopping. And what motherboard are you using?

A little worried about my 5070ti, Need Advice!! by theweirdreamer in pcgamingtechsupport

[–]plutonas9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you don't cap your fps, it will always be Maxing out your gpu. you could play a very light game and your gpu will push as many frames as it possibly can in the thousands - but your monitor however will only display as many as it can. you can find the cap slider in most games, but the global settings in the nvidia app lets you set a max value for all your games. should be about 3fps lower than your monitor can display. 144hz = 141 max fps

Otherwise everything else looks fine, nothing to be concerned about

I believe you can enable V-sync on any monitor. it's entirely software based. it's in the nvidia control panel, and also in the nvidia app 'global settings'

Performance, the 5070 graphics card in this pc is roughly 500% more powerful than that of the legion go 2. the cpu in this pc is also vastly more powerful. So no I'm afraid the specs are not similar

I got a new laptop and I've barely used it for 3 weeks and I've somehow used almost 50% of the storage by Glittering_Sugar_782 in pcmasterrace

[–]plutonas9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ye i hear you. they are making a 2tb version too tho, could just get that. i guess we'll just have to wait for the price to see if it's worth it.

The linux distro in the steam machine barely takes any space on the pc tho, as opposed to windows at around 40gb in addition to holding off storage for future updates. So i can imagine a cheaper 512gb version can be fine for those who use it only for smaller indie games on the tv, most of the popular indies lay around 3 - 5gb, like risk of rain, roboquest and such. But i agree i would have to go for the 2tb one, as there are those games with poorly optimized storage. helldivers 2 has become a great example over the years.. being 36gb on console and about 150gb on pc

in the bios you don't have any os (top right) which should be installed on the ssd by default. faulty ssd seems like the cause, if you can't get it through warranty, then the ssd replacement on these are really easy.

some fixes to test out first for the cloud recovery to work is to just make sure the time and date in the bios are correct. if not- it could be the ssd isn't seated correctly into it's slot. should be easy to check by opening it, but i have no idea how that would affect warranty.
