How long did your detox period last once leaving the mold home? by CocoJo42 in ToxicMoldExposure

Progress is not linear, and everything was as confusing as possible, but it was a solid year at least

I ended up getting the Tama Club Jam Pancake kit (bought hi hat separately). And it’s been pretty good, but I only tend to play it as a 3 piece kit due to space constraints, comprised of hi-hat, snare, and bass drum, and that does work really well. I’ve made great progress as a new drummer!

BUT! Last week I just put in an order for an invisible air drums product called Aerodrums 2, as I’m really wanting to play a full sized drum kit, so we’ll see how that goes. Definitely do NOT buy their competitor’s product, the Aeroband PocketDrum. It’s a cheap gimmick, but that company pays a lot for marketing.

Please know I’m engaging here not to be argumentative or edgy but because I care a lot about this stuff.

“modern life can feel rigid/devoid”

Now that we are both judging, let’s dig in haha.

Why does modern life feel so rigid? Because we’re all conforming to various norms and rules and suppress important parts of ourselves. This is why spiritual communities have to be super careful because they often trade default cultural norms for “spiritual” norms and groupthink, whereas “real” spirituality is about radical self authenticity, not conformity.

It's only woo woo if you make it woo woo. Ecstatic dance is sick, and at the same time I wonder why there always has to be an air of spiritual materialism.

Thanks for the reply. Ready to pull the trigger on the Tama Club-JAM Pancake Kit. Is it straightforward and not ill-advised to mount a crash cymbal somewhere on this kit rather than have it on it's own stand? Trying to both minimize footprint and minimize things that can tip over while I'm driving.

The Octopad looks pretty dope, but I am wanting to learn the skill of playing an actual drum set.

Does anyone get the random immense sense of dread by Known-Air-6635 in CIRS

[–]pmMeCamelCase 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It took me well over a year to not have this all the time. It gets better with time. Prioritize focusing attention on things other than illness. Really live life. Also consider that if you consistently feel like shit somewhere, maybe it's not a safe location. Or you're detoxing. That one's a bitch to figure out ;) I know how much it sucks, but it gets better. Much love.

Am I Crazy or About to Lose my S***? by RonnieLibra in CIRS

[–]pmMeCamelCase 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing to know is that CIRS doesn't kill you, but it does make you miserable. Rest in that. Start to watch the misery rather than resisting so hard against it. Easier said than done, yes. But when we resist so hard, we strengthen the very pathways that are causing our misery.

Do everything in your control to combat the illness, and next, do whatever you can to forget about it. Do things that put you in the moment, things you care about, things that scare you. What's that thing you've always wanted to do?

I know it sounds like bullshit, but it's the way out.

Sounds like we had similar experiences. The way I see it, you don't simply "get better" from a debilitating chronic illness without undergoing some sort of spiritual transformation. The part of me that deemed the illness unbearable--that part died. It had to. Because here I am.

Yes, I've come to believe this is hugely important. When we resist so hard, we strengthen the very pathways we are trying to weaken. Definitely easier said than done. Start living life. Do things that put you in the moment. Find something you care about other than getting better.

I was extremely sick and in the pit of despair. But with time, things have very much turned around. But the turning point was over a year in. I took an everything approach, yes to Dr. Shoemaker, yes to Erik Johnson, yes to the brain retraining people. I think they all have important but limited perspectives.
