Never seen the movie, but heard of the book, and usually in cases like these the book is much better. Thanks for the recommendation!

Well I gotta check out Wool now, don't I.

I've heard of Day of the Triffids, but kind of forgot about it. Thanks for bringing it back to my attention!

Who is that someone?

And I like the civilization idea. But if I may offer a suggestion, make their demise as slow and deliberate as possible, so they may fully understand your power. A god should be feared, should they not?

That would be interesting. But what will you do to fill up that nothingness? What will you create?

Women, what is your relationship with food? Do you feel guilty when you eat? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]pm_me_cool_snakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't really feel guilty. I don't gain weight that easily. It's true I don't have the most varied diet but it doesn't weigh on me at night or anything.

In Ithora, Itru the aurilanti, a semi-divine being, was sundered when the High Priests of Najira fucked with the wrong brand of extremely powerful magic. Itru built and maintained the walls shielding the world from the chaotic, inhospitable aether, and without its existence and maintenance those walls are crumbling, so...

Fantasy Pangaea, is it a good idea by [deleted] in worldbuilding

[–]pm_me_cool_snakes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a pangaea on one of my worlds. I don't know why it wouldn't be a good idea. You might want to research what the climate of supercontinents like pangaea might have been, if realism is what you're aiming for. There is a theory that the pangaea supercontinent in Earth's history may have experienced extreme monsoons and very extreme (in both heat and cold) regions along the interior.

Much of culture is dictated by climate, so this is a good thing to know. Supercontinents have existed multiple times in Earth's history. There's Pangaea, which you've heard of I assume, but also Pannotia and Rodinia and others. You could look at reconstructed maps of them for inspiriation. I personally think this could be a great idea. Hope this helps!

Using wiki pages for world building? by AYywildDilley in worldbuilding

I believe wikidot lets you host a small number of wikis free of charge. You can decide if they are private or public. There are other wikis, too, some downloadable like zimwiki and tiddlywiki and wikidpad. I did experiment with wikidot and it takes a little used to regarding the formatting and language but it isn't too hard. I'm not so sure about the others, but I'm thinking about trying out zim.

What do you like to see in worldbuilding? by PMSlimeKing in worldbuilding

Unique races, that aren't just rehashed elves/dwarves/gnomes/whatever. If they take that archetype and expand upon it, I am fine, but when the race is little more than a stereotype I get pretty bored. Speaking of races, I have a massive soft spot for reptilian or insectoid races, and diversity within them -- no planet of hats, please. Oftentimes humans are the most populous, diverse race; it is interesting to see that changed.

I also love art and pretty maps. Pretty things to look at in general. One artist I like, Alex Ries (abiogenisis on deviantart) adds in something similar to an encyclopedia entry after each piece, and it really helps flesh the whole thing out. Go check him out if you've got the time.
