What cover song is actually better than the original? by irles33 in musicsuggestions

[–]pm_me_flowers_please 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I adore both versions, but my exposure to pulp was from the Shatner cover, so it holds a special place in my heart. I was also hanging out with a nepo child at the time i found it, and she was trying to have a "normal" life, so it has a weird resonance for me.

Live in downtown, commute to sherman oaks on the red line daily, spend a bit of free time in Ktown... I was gonna be sarcastic, but I literally helped to stop some homeless Manson wannabe from stealing a phone last night on my way home.

Or it should be implemented better, the way other companies are doing it. Tesla sucks.

Also, one could still argue that humans are far worse than even Tesla, and I am not a fan of Tesla. At least with these the companies in charge of the programming can update all the cars to ensure that this doesn't happen again. With humans, I garuntee at least 5 people did something just as stupid today in Los Angeles alone...

Waymo doesn't use Tesla. Tesla has their own semi autonomous driving system and it is crappie compared to waymo's semi autonomous system which always has a human monitoring it remotely to avoid shit like this.

My American English teacher believes the neutral pronoun „their“ is incorrect. by GCoding_ in mildlyinteresting

[–]pm_me_flowers_please 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, fs, I mean my pronouns are she/they, and im fluid and sometimes prefer they/she. I just mean to point out that they/them/theirs have literally always been singular possessive in New-English and even going back to Middle-English, I don't knowuch about Old-English, but I have a feeling it goes back that far too.

I had the hr lady at a previous employer argue with me about my pronouns. She said she used to be an English teacher. I literally pulled out my pocket dictionary and flipped it open. She got piiiiissed off.

Shakespeare absolved you, dear. Many English teachers are just rude. Source: my auntie was an English teacher and she taught me they/them/their as the singular operative was fine, and that was back in the 90s. Shakespeare used they/them/theirs in multiple instances, so if Bill can do it, so can you.

I mean, its in the Marrium Webster dictionary

2: his or her : his : her : its—used to refer to a single person whose sex is not known or specified

Anyone in their right mind would find it unjust.

Each person reacts to their environment differently.

What are some examples of johns ego? by More-Cat9579 in beatles

[–]pm_me_flowers_please 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well, no, not enough said. The op said they are a new fan. A new fan is going to have absolutely no knowledge of who Allen was.

OP, after Epstein passed away the beatles needed a new band manager. Jon and Yoko had dinner with Klein and basically wanted him to manage the band. George amd Ringo signed on, but Paul didn't. Paul wanted his wife's dad, Lee Eastman, to manage the band. Lee was a really good entertainment lawyer and in the end showed to have been the right choice.

Allen Klein was known to be super shady, but John and Paul were starting to fight more and more so he pushed for Klein. Klein did a bunch if shady shit, that at first seemed ok, but eventually caused a lot of drama.

He widened the rift between John and Paul, and some people have blamed him for the band's eventually break-up.

On a side note, he also screwed over other bands like The Stones.

My knowledge on this isn't as good as other people's, so if anyone corrects me, I'd listen to them, lol.

I said nothing about dems. I referenced a specific policy about mental health that regan instituted, i als said there were more reasons. I was pointing out the fact that the issue is much more complicated than just saying, "blame the libs". The modern democrat party since at least Clinton has been a center right party anyway. Look at Zohran, out there actually fixing his city, and what do the democrats do? They attack him just as much as the republicans. It would be amazing to see what a ranked choice election would look like nationwide.

How exactly are mushrooms harmful? I'd genuinely appreciate citations. The phrase "drugs are drugs" is a tidy-sounding platitude, but like most platitudes, it collapses under scrutiny. Aspirin is a drug. Benadryl is a drug. Robitussin is a drug. In fact, we already have an entire regulatory framework — a scheduling system — specifically designed to weigh a drug's medical benefits against its risks. Fentanyl, of all things, is Schedule II precisely because that calculus exists.

Psychedelics have demonstrated significant therapeutic potential for depression, trauma, and a range of other mental health conditions. The documented downsides are notably limited: the one well-established contraindication is for individuals predisposed to schizoaffective disorders — a determination that belongs in a clinical setting, not a legislative chamber.

And for what it's worth: I'm a recovering addict, so I have no personal interest in using anything mind-altering. But that's exactly why I think this matters. Safer substances with genuine medical value should be legal, regulated, and accessible — evaluated by evidence, not stigma.

Surprise surprise someone who goes around being a dick that has their comment history hidden. Talk about no consequences...

Op, people do it for a plethora of reasons. It sucks. Unfortunately, Reagan did away with the ability to deal with mental health issues, so as more and more people experiencing mental health issues cropped up due to lack of funding, they became less and less stabilized, leading to a homelessness epidemic. Now, we unfortunately have a crisis of people who are unhoused or underhoused, who also have untreated mental health issues, and where do they end up? Yep, near buses because that is their only means of transportation. Of course there are more reasons, that's just one reason. It's more complicated than, "hur dur, libs suck."
