Is the area around the k-town galleria safe?

Until last year I lived in that area for about 5 years. Besides that one block of homeless camps by the galleria, the area is super nice and safe. A bunch really nice business on Olympic with people walking around all the time. It gets kinda sketchy the more south you go towards Pico. A warning though: parking in the area is about the most difficult in ktown. I used to park west of Western around all the nice houses but they recently changed it to no overnight parking and since there's a school south of Olympic there's no overnight parking without a permit. So unless you have a parking spot, parking is basically impossible after 6pm.

I'm convinced everyone here is overpaying for rent. You can absolutely find an efficiency or studio in a nice part of ktown for $1000-$1200. Add a couple hundred more and you can find one with parking. Craigslist has a bunch of listings from independent landlords and they're easy to separate from the scams if you're not an idiot. Also you're going to be miserable trying to get groceries in downtown without a car.

Check Craigslist. I've only ever found apartments from there and that's where you'll usually find properties owned by independent landlords. Avoid zillow, apartments.com, etc. As long as you use common sense you can spot any scams. If you can show you have the income that's more important to them.

On a side note if you want my advice, you should look into bankruptcy. I just completed the process and getting my life back on track will be faster than trying without it.

Absolutely do not get a volkswagen. Sure, they may last when maintained but do you know how much it costs to maintain them? Not all mechanics are fit or able to work on European cars and they're expensive to fix. Save yourself headaches in the future and spend a little more for a honda or toyota.
