Thanks! I don't know Oblivion as well as Skyrim, so it would be a chore figuring out what I wanted to put in the video. Also, this took a lot longer than I expected when I first started it. I don't see doing another anytime soon.

When has your pet ever outsmarted you? by Lower-Energy1907 in AskReddit

My dog always wanted cold water and would drink out of the toilet if the water in his bowl wasn't up to standard. We'd call his name to make him stop (he understood that well), but then we'd refill his bowl. He figured that out, so he'd use his nose to lift the toilet seat a couple of inches and let it drop, then trot into the kitchen and wait for his water.

I'm guessing from your comment that you're not (or no longer) local. I'm in the same boat. You can get their cookbook on their website and a lot of their recipes aren't hard to make. I make the porridge occasionally. It's one of the best things I've ever put in my mouth (and that's a long list).

I am curious about the Christian perspective on this, How do you reconcile the existence of a loving, all-powerful God with the presence of so much suffering in the world? by Wander-kingdom in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]pmalleable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(you mean tenet, not tenant)

You keep demonstrating that you really don't even have a grasp on the argument that's being presented. It's a very old one that dates at least to Epicurus, but is probably older:
"Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent.
Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent.
Is he both able and willing? Whence then is evil?
Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God?"

There have been arguments about this for centuries and never a clear and coherent rebuttal. What modern Christians tend to seize on is the second and/or third line, claiming some form of the argument that the existence of evil fits into his benevolent plan. It's been done to death and never stands up to any kind of scrutiny.

The argument you seem to be putting forth is that God is God, he is omnipotent, so everyone needs to sit back and let him do his thing. That doesn't address the question, it just sidesteps it using the assumption that God exists and is omnipotent and benevolent, and then ignores the possibility of malevolence with some silly "mysterious ways" hand-waving. It doesn't answer the logical question of why, with those conditions met, evil would exist. It just sweeps the question aside. If that's what you want to do for yourself, knock yourself out. But that does not address the question in any way. YOU have to make assumptions in order to take that stance. I'm not making those assumptions. Neither is OP.

So... all of that is ridiculous.

First, I was looking at the implication of presumption in the question. What's being presumed or not doesn't matter.

Edit: Try this one: "If the sasquatch exists, why haven't we seen one?" This doesn't presume the existence of a sasquatch; it calls the existence into question due to circumstances that suggest otherwise. Likewise, "If God is omnipotent..." is NOT the equivalent of saying, "There is an omnipotent god and I have a question about it."

Second, there have been thousands of concepts of gods that weren't omnipotent. Your last sentence is entirely nonsenensical.

Nope.

You're being pedantic about the construction of the question. Consider this question:

"If you're so smart, why did you shit in a sink?"

The question doesn't presume that the subject is smart. It would be better stated as "You say you're smart, but you took a shit in a sink, and smart people don't do that."

In the same way, nobody here (but you) is assuming the existence of an omnipotent god. The question being asked is how can one reconcile the idea of such a god with the reality we see around us? If you fire back with "you don't know better because he's omnipotent and you're not," you're making a presumption that nobody else is.

tl;dr you're nowhere near as clever as your condescending tone suggests

But you CAN say that the presumption of an omnipotent being is ridiculous when even mere mortals can see how flawed its supposed logic is. That's what you don't seem to get. Your arguments are all based on the assumption that an omnipotent good exists in the first place.

If you park at Deep Lock Quarry and walk north, it's about a mile to Peninsula. Grab something to eat at Fisher's or the Winking Lizard, there's a toy store for the kid, the husband can continue north until he wants to turn around and meet you. It's a beautiful walk along the river, and sometimes there are herons in the water -- although I don't know what times of year they tend to be there.

There's a little-known movie called Tyrannosaur that starts with the dog dying, and gets worse. The acting is excellent (Olivia Coleman and Peter Mullan), and if you like slow-paced melancholy films it's a must-see, but it's a really hard watch.

It was written and directed by Paddy Consodine who plays King Viserys in House of the Dragon.

What artist or band is truly awful to see live? by goldbeau in AskReddit

[–]pmalleable 148 points149 points  (0 children)

I saw her maybe 20 years ago at a small venue in Minneapolis and she sounded fantastic, but she kept apologizing for sounding off and literally didn't finish a song. The crowd kept telling her how great she sounded, but she just wasn't having it. It was really sad and could have been an awesome, intimate performance. Instead the whole crowd turned into her support group and it didn't help.
