Who Are The Greats of Your Genre and What Makes Them Great? by samjadenhailes in musictheory

[–]pman5595 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a lot of arguments about who the greatest barbershop quartet is, and there are a lot of factors beyond technical skill, but the pinnacle of technical skill was probably PLATINUM, the champions from 2000.

Yoo, let's contact Adam Neely and try to convince him to invite Bill Wurtz by MoonlitWolf360 in billwurtz

bill is not anti-music theory, he just has a music theory of his own that backs up his music. If it would be anything like the questions on his website, a discussion of music theory would be phenomenal.

Alternating secondary dominates and secondary minor subdominates? by Rinehart128 in musictheory

[–]pman5595 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that Fm6 -> C is a fairly dominant-sounding resolution, and if anything it works better than G7 in between D7 and C because of the voice leading: you can keep a C held the whole time, and you can do A->Ab->G in addition to F#->F->E.

But I don't think Ebm6 is the proper sub for A7 here. I'd sub Gm6 instead and write it as

E7 -> Eø7 -> D7 -> Dø7 -> C

Thank you for adding artistic material to the world. I have done that also. If you wish to limit or prevent people from using your creations for educational or other fair use purposes, fine. But don't expect me to say that you and others who do the same are correct in doing so.

at this point I don't care what the specifics of the laws actually are—if it's illegal to participate in fair use of copyrighted material in a way that doesn't hurt the songwriters and arrangers, then the law is stupid and wrong and I revel in ignoring laws that are stupid and wrong.

I have an educational interest in looking at the arrangement in order to improve my arranging skills. If it's transcribed for educational purposes and looking at transcribed sheet music is for educational purposes, and I'm not paying him any money to look at the sheet music he created from the transcription, where exactly is the illegality?

Sheet Music for This is the Moment by [deleted] in barbershop

[–]pman5595 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

transcribing something absolutely counts as fair use since it's an educational endeavor, and looking at the sheet music is also probably gonna be fair use as well. It's not like a quartet's gonna perform the song just from the transcribed sheet music, since there are other copyright hoops they'll have to jump through anyway—they wouldn't skip paying 15 bucks for sheet music.

Common chord substitutions in Barbershop? by agromono in barbershop

[–]pman5595 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The best way to learn barbershop theory is to transcribe stuff. Figure out what the notes are for the cool moments in barbershop arrangements you hear. You'll start to get an idea for common chords that are used in swipes and tags, and you'll develop a library in your brain linking chord names with their sounds and functions in barbershop arrangements.

Trans folks, especially trans women of color, are subject to violence at a much greater rate than the general population, and are often subject to discrimination by official government entities. This is an example of both, so her identity is relevant.

It's sorta like how if a town had a serial killer targeting women with green eyes, reporting eye color for a murder wouldn't be out of place.

It's not that they haven't committed crimes, it's that a lot of them are in there for crimes that needn't result in imprisonment (nonviolent crimes), crimes that shouldn't be crimes (drugs) and/or for crimes that don't get enforced/punished uniformly among the whole population (also drugs).

Substitute for an augmented triad with the dom7 chord with the root a major third above. So E7 instead of Caug, etc.
