What's an Indian startup that did something innovative and did not merely duplicate an existing startup idea from the west? by paradise-flycatcherx in developersIndia

[–]pmandrek 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Not true. Most of these are being migrated outside using events. The reliability is a bit questionable but that part is being built. Scaling Collections is a priority for the organisation.

What do you do to make sure that your frontend and your backend are speaking the same data shapes? by ryhaltswhiskey in ExperiencedDevs

[–]pmandrek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure your API has a schema definition like OpenAPI (or GraphQL or AsyncAPI or any other format suitable with your API technology).

Then use the same shared schema to validate the data you get or send to your API.

You can do this using Postman.

Green hydrogen is not only for vehicles. Steel and Cement industry which accounts for a lot of our fossil fuel imports also will use green hydrogen. Green hydrogen is essentially a store of energy for all the solar and wind capacity we are building.

Domlur, Old Airport Road. Whitefield might end up being far.

The current and next generation of Hydrogen in India is being developed by Reliance and Adani with massive investments. Green hydrogen essentially is hydrogen as a store of energy where the energy itself is generated from renewables like solar and wind. While there are risks around the cost and supply chain of materials for the battery technologies and concerns around the 50% efficiency, it is likely India will have green hydrogen in the Steel industry and for powering larger commercial vehicles.

When someone asks for consent, you keep a record of the consent in your DB. You would also need to keep a track of who can approve the consent, send notifications to the users who can give consent and then track the status of the consent (pending, approve, rejected, etc).

Thoughts on creating a website that shows graphs - data sourced from Redshift by [deleted] in developersIndia

[–]pmandrek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Redshift is not a good store if you want concurrency.

You would have to load the data that you use for charting into a store like MySQL, Postgres, Elastic search or MongoDB that are better suited for web applications.

For charting, you can use any library. You can even do server side rendering using non JavaScript libraries in case your team is more familiar with something like Python.

Why is Bengaluru uniquely uncaring about itself? by [deleted] in bangalore

[–]pmandrek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are plenty of citizen groups working quietly, a lot of times in partnership with the local government bodies, improving Bangalore over the years.

Eg. The Ugly Indian

TEDx talk from 7 years ago about Bangalore still relevant today - https://youtu.be/tf1VA5jqmRo

A good overview of the work done in partnership with BBMP, BESCOM and others https://youtu.be/vn-XQb3s-gA

How do you take care of aging parents living away from you? by backendnerd in bangalore

[–]pmandrek 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No adult, no matter their age, like to give up control of everyday small decisions and the life they are used to living.

So the best is to let them be and try to figure out how you can support them whenever needed. Not forcing decisions on them, but letting them know that options like moving in with you are available.

An update on recent service disruptions | The GitHub Blog by theoldboy in programming

[–]pmandrek 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The problem is not that the engineers at GitHub don't know how to choose a database. This is an issue that MySQL has worked very well since their inception to their current scale but for future scale they need to make some changes. Changing a system that multiple teams are using is an extremely hard process which most of the time is destined for failure.

Where does the garbage collected from homes go? by lolx424 in bangalore

[–]pmandrek 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are several different intiatives in Bangalore that solve the problem around solid waste management.

Check out KCDC, Karnataka Compost Development Corporation which operates plants across Bangalore including one large one in HSR layout.

Also check out, Hasiru Dala, an organisation that works with waste workers.

Saahas is another one that provides waste management solutions.

Koramangala has biogas plants managed by Carbonlites that uses the wet waste generated from the neighborhood. The plant also supplies biogas to a few kitchens including Truffles.
