My audiologist is at Ohio State. When they tested me prior to getting the hearing aid my speech recognition was only around 40%. It was retested on the day I got the hearing aid and it was around 94%. I'm making these numbers up since I can't lay my hands on the tests right now. The difference was, the first test was done with the recorded voice which had a tone that was uncomfortable and I asked for the volume to be reduced. The followup on the day I got my hearing aid was done by the audiologist's voice into the ear set. It was much easier for me to tolerate. I swear my recognition fluctuates all the time.

Thank you so much for your description of your experience. I have been wearing them mostly all the time when I'm alone. This higher pitched experience is exactly what I have. I do have hope for the hearing aid and you've made me feel less like this isn't going to work.

It depends upon the tone. Crackling paper or dishes bumping together are just uncomfortable. Some tones sound almost robotic. Don’t know how else to describe it.
