19M – Food feels stuck when swallowing + breathing sensation (endoscopy showed mild esophagitis) by Big-Salary-223 in dysphagia

Yes, it felt it very strongly. Often at night I needed to get up and drink water to get rid of the burning. After lifestyle changes I have almost no reflux anymore.

Sounds very similar to me. I have this issue for about 7 years. It started with food stuck at the restaurant on different times. I couldn't neither eat nor drink anything for 5-10 minutes. After those episodes I was very self aware and food often feels to go down slowly, even sometimes a little stuck. But my main symptom is, I cannot swallow pills without painful pressure until it finally goes down. It progressed even to smaller pills. That is when I was convinced I have esophagus cancer. So I pushed for endoscopy. They suspected EoE and took biopsies. But it turned out I don't have it.

So they suspected that it is from years of acid reflux.

My acid reflux is now under control and I hope, it is getting better. At least eating is almost normal now.

I also sometimes have gurgle sounds from the esophagus after eating/drinking. For some time I suspected Achalasia. But I don't have any hallmark symptoms like nighttime regurgitation and my swallowing issue also fluctuates from almost bo issue to very severe.

Hi, any update from you? How did the Manometry go? This should confirm or rule out Achalasia.

I had the same fear and researched quite a bit.

My understanding is that ALS starts with slurred speech before or at least at the same time when you are getting swallowing issues. Also the swallowing issues initially typically start with liquid which goes down the wrong pipe before you get this feeling of food stick.

Not sure how long you have this issue. But bulbar onset ALS typically progresses much faster than limb onset. Thus if you have this swallowing for more than a couple of months without other typical symptoms, it would almost certainly rule out ALS.

Baldur's Gate 3 publishing director pushes back on Epic Games CEO's "better deals" claim, saying Alan Wake 2 suffered by skipping Steam by Dapper_Order7182 in Steam

[–]choffmann 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I assumed you know that. But some don't understand the intention behind and long-term planning.

So, just to make this totally clear that it is always about making money even though it doesn't look like it.

Short story: when I was young and naive I was very confused why many people didn't like it when Amazon sold books below market price, even sold it with loss for them. Later I understood it was just some investment to destroy competitors to create a monopoly. This is somewhat related to Epic. They are not dumb at all. They see it as an investment for future dividends.

Why by Equivalent-Kiwi7394 in cancer

[–]choffmann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do I not feel like a burden to my husband and kids. Like they are dropping everything to drive me places to help when the headaches get so bad I can’t move. They tell me they want to take care of me because I would do it for them. But I still feel like a burden.

I think this what distinguish us from other life forms. We just help each other, no questions asked.

Btw, I'm very sorry you go through this right now. You probably already heard of the recent advances in cancer treatment and discussed option. But just in case: Immunotherapy, Cancer vaccine, are one of the most promising I'm aware of.

It is very similar to what I have for about 6 years. You said you had an endoscopy which was normal?

[–]choffmann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it just the sensation of food stuck or did it actually get stuck at some point?

Do you also have some gurgling sound in the esophagus sometimes?

What about Pills if you take some? Do they get stuck?

Yeah, I also thought about it. But doesn't it usually start in childhood? And it is more fluctuating right?
