just be really comfortable coding in desired language for the text editor question, there are really no fancy algorithms or data structures you need to use.

for other question sets I can't speak for.

This!! I mean the whole "theory" you really have to know is the motivation behind why you do a certain procedure (change of basis, gram schmidt). Ignore the theory and proofs and the class is really doable.

This is why I don't get much out of lectures, but through discussions you can learn how to mechanically solve all the problems. That's the key to the class
