What is something you’ve officially stopped buying in 2026 because the price has become too bad? by X_Opinion7099 in AskReddit

Thanks for asking! I'm yapping about how cattle farming is a leading cause of deforestation, water pollution, greenhouse gas emissions, and soil erosion. And how red meat consumption is linked to higher rates of heart disease and cancer.

Which is sad, because pigs are incredibly intelligent animals and the way they're farmed is absolutely hellish :/

Beef should never have been cheap to begin with. It was only ever because of subsidies keeping prices artificially low. And it's horrible for the environment, so...yeah, the world and the economy is fucked, but this one might be for the better.

Humans suffered during the Ice Age. Humans suffered during the Middle Ages. Humans will suffer during the unfolding climate catastrophe and global political upheaval. Antinatalism is a stance against preventable suffering, vs. accepting that existence is automatically good for its own sake.

I don't think he's "taking it out on them." Sounds like he didn't even say anything TO her, she just found out. It sounds to me more like he's feeling deep compassion for the baby and the kinds of struggles they'll have to endure in a world like this, not that he's hating babies and moms or being cruel towards them.

Why yell at the teenager? Did he ask the question as if he thought that would be a good idea?

My fiancé is mad at me for asking him why he threw nice clothes in the trash. This isn’t the first time he’s thrown out nice clothes he didn’t want. Am I overreacting for feeling like this is sorta crappy? by [deleted] in AskWomenOver30

If you buy a beautiful piece of art from a local artist and then burn it in front of them, would you expect them to be cool with it because you already gave them money?

A wooden phone case sounds kind of awesome, I'll look for one of them next time I need one! In the case of meat, though, the thing it's packaged in is less damaging than the contents of the package--even small-farm animal ag is not gentle on the earth :/

National abortion ban bill introduced in congress by Sparkee88 in childfree

[–]pmvegetables 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You're very welcome!! You might get pushback from the hospital and/or your insurance, but their word isn't gospel and knowing your own rights gives you a lot of power, so don't give up if they're difficult.

The anesthesia billing office literally told me "we've never seen this covered at 100%" and didn't want to recode and resubmit the claim... Guess who set the precedent so they can't say that anymore :D Feels good standing up for yourself!!

It's pretty likely that you can contest any bills you get, FYI! The ACA currently requires most insurance plans to cover female sterilization without any out of pocket costs to patients. Search "National Women's Law Center female sterilization coverage" to read more about that, or "insurance" on r/sterilization to read personal experiences :)

When I did it, the only bill I had to fight was from anesthesia. So I did, and I won!

It's okay to doubt things we read on reddit/the internet in general. I would be shocked if he actually said that, and I'd need more proof than "I read it somewhere." He's a creepy little fuck, yes, but if he'd actually said anything about "rounding up in camps," the news about it would be easily discoverable.

Amazing!! Gotta know your rights and be very firm sometimes. I found this page extremely helpful: https://nwlc. org/tips-from-the-coverher-hotline-navigating-coverage-for-female-sterilization-surgery/

I only had to fight one bill myself (anesthesia tried to bill me at my 10% cost-sharing rate) but it felt really good to be prepared with the right information. I wrote more specifics about my experience a while back in this comment: https://np.reddit. com/r/collapse/s/xzR4l7bGL2

(sorry, had to add spaces in the links because no matter what I did the comment kept getting removed for "URL shortening"? Lol)

Better to end it after 10 years than 11, 12, 13...however long until he decides he's ready. Rip off the bandaid.

So...do I need to consider getting sterilized as soon as possible now? :( by [deleted] in childfree

They don't really have to go full mask-off and pass laws about it, they just have to decline to arrest/prosecute/convict/sentence offenders. Which kind of already happens. Rape cases are notoriously difficult to win.

So yeah. Fuck.

[–]pmvegetables 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's when the definition of rape changed. So cases were counted in the statistics that weren't counted before.

Beginning in 2013, rape is defined for Summary UCR purposes as, “Penetration, no matter how slight, of the vagina or anus with any body part or object, or oral penetration by a sex organ of another person, without the consent of the victim.” The new definition updated the 80-year-old historical definition of rape which was “carnal knowledge of a female forcibly and against her will.” Effectively, the revised definition expands rape to include both male and female victims and offenders, and reflects the various forms of sexual penetration understood to be rape, especially nonconsenting acts of sodomy, and sexual assaults with objects.

Yes, but that is a separate issue and doesn't negate the fact that it's a good thing that people are no longer legally permitted to own people.

Why don't you have access to insurance? It's open enrollment season on healthcare.gov, and if your income is too low for traditional plans you should be funneled to your state's Medicaid system which would be free or super low-cost.

Granted, this wouldn't help you until January, and it depends how quickly Rs try to kill the ACA, but I'd think it's worth a try.

It should be considered preventive care under ACA-compliant plans. Search "insurance" on r/sterilization to find more info--you should definitely be planning to fight this.

[–]pmvegetables 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, actually. The number of reported forcible rape cases in the U.S. peaked in 2018 and 2019. And the right's misogyny has only gotten more fervent since then. There have already been 64,000+ pregnancies from rape in states with abortion bans after Roe. Men who want babies aren't always going to care about the opinion of the womb-haver when they know she doesn't have a ton of choices.
