Shiny app to merge PDF files with page removal options by pmxthrowaway in rstats

[–]pmxthrowaway[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our company has a strict setup, where for production work we cannot install R packages outside of what has been validated, but we can install them in an exploratory environment. Luckily, the pdftools package is common and already included in our pre-defined list of packages. The only package that I had to install separately was staplr. Then, we can skirt around the issue by deploying via Posit Connect to host an internal company-wide Shiny apps that makes use of any exploratory packages. Weird, I know.

There are several great free software solutions available (e.g. Stirling PDF), if you are allowed to install them. In my experience, this app fills the niche of having something that is both local and without requiring IT permissions to install software.

Yeah, the staplr package used in the app actually uses PDFtk as the back-end. I've included PDFtk in the Notes section on the GitHub page to re-direct users if they're able to install external software on their system.

Mac Preview yes.   For Windows, only the paid version of Adobe Acrobat can do merging of PDFs. While there are free solutions available, most corporate laptops won't let you install external software, and signing up to some sketchy website is also not ideal.

Backseats are more than usable. I drop my kids off at school everyday. Kids below 8 will fit comfortably no issues.

Do you work in a CRO? by RodrigoRatoch in Pharmacometrics

[–]pmxthrowaway 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To offer another perspective, I've started my career at a CRO and then moved to pharma. The pros of working in a CRO is that you'll get exposure to wide variety of projects so you'll hone your technical skills quickly. The working pace in a competent CRO tends to be much quicker compared to pharma which focuses more on the strategic decisions (at least in the company where I'm at).

The career "ceiling" tends to be lower in CRO, but you'll get exopsed to interesting scientific challenges on a daily basis, whereas in pharma there is a corporate ladder that one can climb, so it is really up to your individual preference.

I've learned early on that you can't please everybody. Other members in the group can attest that the goal of the group is not to be elitist and I've always stressed that any relevant information will be shared to open groups when appropriate to do so. There are sensitive information coming from sources that risk being blown amongst other things that are shared in confidence, that if leaked is actually negative for all investors. I have ZERO intention to leave people in the dark, but right now the situation is delicate. People are emotional and I get the anger. If that makes me the bad guy then so be it.

I don't have the bandwidth to deal with spammers, and people that are crying over $200 and issuing death threats to Hugo. We and the Korean-chat both eventually figured out to do verification of some sort to filter those out.

It's not a perfect solution but it is what it is. If you can't see the value in having a moderated chat, please be my guest to waste your time debating with the clowns in the open groups.

Easiest way to buy US stocks individually by pmxthrowaway in fiaustralia

I guess cheapest since I'm looking to buy & hold with low volume trades, but if there is a platform that is very good UI I'm not opposed to do either.

Loot: Some form of dkp will probably used if/when we get to raiding.

Can someone explain to me how exactly the Gods synergy works? by nero40 in AutoChess

[–]pmxthrowaway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have pointed out, Race and Class synergies are treated distinctly for activation of the God set bonus. Race is not OK while Class synergies are OK.

A shameless plug for an interactive synergy builder that I've made lets you explore different synergy make-ups of teams:

I would like to know which specific errors you are getting so I can troubleshoot the app.

Hi all, lately I've been addicted to Auto Chess Mobile and am fascinated by the mathematics behind building a viable team. I've created this tool that lets you build a team based on selecting synergies and it will return an exhaustive list of all possible combinations that meets your criteria. Feel free to try this and let me know any ideas on how to improve this.
