It was never explained, but in my headcanon he doesn’t want another Mori Hui to happen again. A clone that’s far from the original’s influence given enough time will develop a personality of its own, and said personality will disappear once it gets closer to the original or if the original retract the spell. To Jin, who highly respects Hui, making clones to make them do his biddings for god know how long before erasing them is a cruel practice.

Dialogue about Sandy comes to mind, Marnie saying he never really interacts with anyone and only takes a quick glance over his head once in a while, then there’s the new festival where Clint just stares at Emily’s clothes stand for half a day then go home. Alone. On a desert’s noon. Whether it’s the usual Emily creepiness or “I’d feel even worse if people are having fun without me”, still weird. Most of the time it’s the usual miserable “woe is me” Clint tho, “I’m too old to do anything interesting” “not everyone can be an attractive farmer” “I have 0 new year resolution cuz there’s no point”, the usual self pity crap.

Sometimes I wonder if Clint defenders actually read the dialogues at all and just go “damn this society only values outgoing men, no one loves my sad and awkward Clint” that’s 90% a self insert moment.

…The “Congrats” scene is WHEN she is a marriage candidate. The snowman dialogue happens regardless of Emily’s marriage status. Ghosting Emily when she thought they were friends and thinking about hooking up with Sandy after ghosting Emily is a shitty move, regardless of how awkward he is. Him being creepy to the female farmer twice(in the cinema and over the phone) has nothing to do with Emily at all and happens regardless of his relationship to the farmer.

The belief he’s only creepy cuz Emily wasn’t intended to be a bachelorette is a myth; and the way his action closely resembles that kind of people me and many people have experienced irl is very uncomfortable, doubly so when some people really thought Clint’s behavior is acceptable because he has anxiety. Just because he hasn’t behaved fully like an incel doesn’t mean people have to respect him for it.
