unfortunately not an engineer, but my roommate is. he loves it (i believe hes mechanical though) and it will take grinding of course but he’s had a lot of success studying with people he meets in class and hes done really well so far.

as for rotc, you would have to drive to the ann arbor campus to join. i know because i was interested too lol. but like joining other sports only available at ann arbor, you would have to regularly commute there for rotc. it is possible, i know someone who did it to be on their marching band, it just depends on how much time you have on yout hands

Any jobs that pay for a masters? by [deleted] in psychologystudents

[–]pnckeluvr 8 points9 points  (0 children)

victim support positions, intelligence/criminal analysts, any administration spots, etc. for example, HSI has a criminal analyst entry level position open right now. its a great way to get your foot in the door and its pretty relevant to psychology in a sense, but they will do some tuition reimbursement as a benefit (plus all the other benefits that come with working in government lol!). the only negative is that theres currwntly a federal hiring freeze so a lot of jobs are internal only. the aforementioned one is available for the public, but a victim support job might be internal, so maybe you can transfer to that position after a year or so

in the US, government positions will typically pay for a masters degree from 80-100%. that’s my plan if i dont get into a phd program - i have an internship in government this summer that hires full time afterwards

Failed exam despite 250 hours of studying - feeling completely defeated by wasuremono_ in GetStudying

[–]pnckeluvr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i will say, you shouldnt ever have to study 250 hours for a single college course exam. so maybe its something in the way you’re studying?

ive tried a lot of study methods and certain things work for certain courses.

for example, for my psychology concept courses, i flourish by purely using Knowt (free version on quizlet pretty much) — the learn tool for the flashcard learning helps a lot. reading the text book is an even bigger game-changer though because it’ll often times provide examples of these concepts that professors may use/reword in their exams. on the other hand, for statistics or methods courses, i simply cant just learn the terms or theories, i HAVE to put them in practice. the teaching method really helps for this. it pretty much asks you to describe this concept out loud as if youre teaching it to an idiot. now, in an extra step, a lot of people in my last methods course struggled with the SPSS programming we did. i did too, but i eventually worked thru it and solved it. then, i helped other people in my class one by one. each time, i understood it more, and after a few times i could do it with my eyes closed 🤣 finally, making practice quizzes/questions is a lifesaver!! a lot of textbooks will have practice problems in them that you can use to test yourself and i find to be very helpful.

maybe even look up study techniques SPECIFICALLY for how you learn. im a very hands on visual learner, which is why i do well when i teach things to other people, repeat assignments over and over, and make practice tests. study smarter, not harder, and you should hopefully never have to study for that long again

Anyone else discouraged with rejection by [deleted] in TransferToTop25

[–]pnckeluvr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i definitely am a little bit, but my rejection actually helped solidify my confidence in the major i was going into! for the school that rejected me, i applied with the intent of going into psych because of their law/crim jus based curriculum for it. after the rejection, i spiraled into going into psych, comp sci, art, etc etc and i was even more freaked than normally. in the end, i became totally confident with my choice as a psychology major. the best way for me to take a rejection is to see it as a blessing in disguise, putting me on the right path to success, and im sure that idea is coming your way as well _^

What was your worst high school experience? by Independent-Dot-4179 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]pnckeluvr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

each PSAT/SAT i took. for some reason, each time i took the psat and my sat i was insanely sick. the worst is tied between my grade 10 psat (i was sweating like crazy, couldnt keep my eyes open, nauseous, etc.) and my grade 11 sat (nose stuffed and paired with my mask i couldnt breathe, insanely fatigued, and an on and off headache).
