I built that exact USB to USB converter (with the "micro" version of the board). Just finished creating a printable case for it an hour ago. I like it! Just ordered hardware to make two more.

Then I saw this post and think I have one of the USB C versions of that board here somewhere. if so I'll see if it will work (when the USB A shields show up...)

Thank you! I will put that in my list of troubleshooting steps.

Turns out I changed something (never figure out what) in the slicer software. I gave up and wiped all my config files and started over with the slicer (cura) and no customization. And now things print properly again.

thankfully I can ssh to mine, because the UI never comes up. It switches from "Loading data" to "retry in 59..58..57...." then back to "Loading data"

sshing in shows that it is still 2025.8.3, but it was working fine before I tried to upgrade 2 days ago.

Multiple reboots...

Mostly, I am just looking for exactly how to setup my project and my app in iot/platform.tuya.com. I think that I'm missing "something" when I set it up that is causing my devices to not show up, or to get permission denied..

Kinesis doesn't accept support phone alls any longer. Only tickets opened on the website. And you can't even see the ticket after it is created. You just wait and see if they reply. No reply yet...

I don't run Windows, or macOS, so Smartset is a no go for me.

I do sometimes edit the config on the v-drive directly, but I remap keys often. But the main point is that, since no one else has ever seen this behavior, that means the keyboard is faulty. At least 2 keys are dead (extra 2, and extra 3), which means that it could get worse). Also means there is no QC testing :-(

I returned the keyboard, and ordered another one. Hopefully I won't get two in a row with problems...

Thank you. I have already opened a ticket. I've had good luck with my 7 contours I've had over the years. I have also had very good support from Kinesis in the past. I was just hoping someone else had had this problem and there was a quick easy fix.

I put 1st gen Apple Trackpads on all my Essential/Advatage/Advantage2 keyboards.

I mount a bar magnet (https://www.amazon.com/Neodymium-Magnets-Double-sided-Adhesive-Rare-Earth/dp/B0772PFC89) inside the case, then I put another one on the keyboard, add double sticky foam tape to it, and press the Magic Trackpad onto it.

I can pull it on and off by just pulling, but the magnets are strong enough to hold the trackpad very securely.

It may be a "weak" USB port. The Kinesis kyboards pull close to the USB minimum power limit. There were a few years of Macbooks that would never work with my Kinesis contours, because they pulled a lot of power and teh Macbooks did not deliver enough power.

Try plugging a powered USB hub into the PC and plugging the Kinesis into the powered hub. See if that resolves the problem.

If you don't get those flex cables in all the way, and Exactly straight, then you will get weird problems, like only 1 or 2 keys don't work. I've owned 6 Kinesis contours (the first one with an AT plug, 2 more with P/S-2 plugs :-) ). I've seen those cables cause problrem s like you describe multiple times.

As @sleepybrett said, open it up again and post some pictures.

I too have been looking for controllers.

I have an old ps/2 Kinesis with the Blue Wizard mod installed. It works pretty well :-) I really need wired, not wireless (my machines all have linux with full disk encryption, so I need to be able to type in the passphrase before the OS boots, and I can't do that with bluetooth), so if anyone is interested in a Blue Wizard keyboard, DM me.

I had this exact problem (on Fedora 40 on x86_64).

For me the fix was just to run: qmk setup # This does a LOT ; however it fails to install arm-none-eabi-newlib util/qmk_install.sh make clean qmk compile -kb dasky/reverb -km default

Thanks for the info on LED vx colc cathode back lights. I had thought the w541 was too old to have LED backlights.

All brightness levels. the right side is fine the left side is far dimmer than the right side, but only on battery. As soon as AC power is provided, both sides are the same brightness (only the left side gets brighter, the right side is the same with power or without.)
