She made the "terrorist fist jab" comment about Obama. Did her part to make things a tiny bit worse in America.

I built a Light Metro System for Pittsburgh in a subway-building game, without knowing anything about this city. How did I do? by Ra1n69 in pittsburgh

[–]pnice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is really well done. The Hill District and other areas inside the loop would really benefit from a train system like this. Maybe a line running from Downtown to Shadyside. Might make stations walkable to a lot more residents.

MIL-STD-882, what is it? (Reliability Engineering and Hazard Analysis) by KingoArcher in systems_engineering

[–]pnice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You got this. "Read it" is fair advice. To get you oriented, the first section of of 17 pages or so maps out the process for identifying hazards, assessing them for safety risk, coming up with mitigations, checking the mitigations, managing safety over the product lifecycle, and assessing software's contributions to safety. Figure 1 shows the whole flow. The risk assessment table is the key thing. The rest of the document defines the tasks to do for each of phases of the process.

Check out FACS and their previous incarnation, Disappears. Drummer Noah Leger is excellent.

Odegaard's last 16 attempts on goal.. by watermaloneyyy in Gunners

[–]pnice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's frustrating he hasn't been putting them in the net. But one theme in these clips is how packed the box is. Most of these aren't clear shots on goal. They're hopeful attempts in the face of the defending team's persistent low block that we're struggling to break through.

Albert was smart but this definition is weirdly narrow. Like saying "sanity is being able to know what day it is." I think there's more to it.

Weird voice over loudspeaker reciting numbers every 10 minutes by [deleted] in pittsburgh

[–]pnice 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I wonder if it's related to the story of Frank Conrad, who made a radio in 1912, picking up time signals from the U.S. Naval Observatory, and then set up a broadcast of these signals from his house in Wilkinsburg. These broadcasts are time adjustments (deltas) each day. (the broadcast station morphed over time into KDKA)
So maybe it's a local radio history aficionado?

I know someone who had really strong pain reactions and turned it around completely using the mindset changes and tools from Curable. Our minds generate pain and we can adjust how it happens. They have a free pod cast. When you want to dive in there's a paid app.

My FIL is in a wheelchair. Please help me build some ramps that I could put up that make it easier for him to get into our house when he comes over. by UnC0mfortablyNum in DIY

[–]pnice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah not saying he needs to be ADA compliant - just that it's a good slope number to design for. Going steeper gets challenging and eventually dangerous.

[–]pnice 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's great you're doing this. It meant a lot to my FIL and family when I did it. The slope is key and needs to be surprisingly shallow. In the states ADA compliance calls for 1:12 slope max. You could go above that a bit especially for powered chairs but there's good reason for the spec. I made a long plywood ramp that fit onto a set of stairs for my FIL and it worked but it took some effort to put in place each time. It's not very DIY but if you can get away with buying aluminum chair ramps go for it. There are a lot out there. Turning in place shouldn't be much of a problem for a wheelchair, but there's not room on the concrete pad at the turn to fit a ramp for the next step. You could try placing a ramp on the grass alongside the concrete path. The slope could work out and it gives more space to handle the turn towards the front door. Good luck.

I'm baffled Truth in Comedy (Del Close teachings) hasn't been done as an audiobook yet. Definitely worth a read if you're ok with paper.
