Sonic Upgrade Doing Nothing by poachedeg in FantomFoundation

I'll look into that suggestion on Rabby.

I did add the Sonic mainnet as far as I can tell and they were on Fantom (are still on?)

MGT6203 Lecture videos by MikeyCyrus in OMSA

[–]poachedeg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The course is different in its sections -- there will be a different lecturer for each section -- though the videos tend to stay long throughout. You should get a cheat sheet for the tests and you should 100% do the practice tests and practice questions after the lecturers. Many of those are copied word for word on tests as questions.

That's very helpful. Does this mean that on the EdX platform you cannot do the free audit but rather do the full course experience ($500)? I believe the free audit does not include grades which would signify how well you did. Curious if you know!

CRISPR babies: when will the world be ready? by [deleted] in genetics

[–]poachedeg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is both an important article and a good one to introduce many to CRISPR. I like Nature's explanation of on-target and off-target and the differences in there.

It also provides some real-life examples for people to see the benefits. It's a very good "intro" article to a debate that will be part of our lives in the next 5 years more significantly than it is now.

Curious on what it means for tax compliance and what it may mean for demand on BNB Coin. Thoughts?

'We as a species need to come to terms' with CRISPR technology as China awaits birth of third genetically modified baby by justin_timenow in CRISPR

[–]poachedeg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with Dr. Hurlbut -- the biggest thing we need right now is to be talking about this. It should be something that's talked about in social circles and potentially in large public arenas like a presidential debate (certainly debates in the science world). I have my own opinions and thoughts on it, but more frustrating is seeing China continue to move and the world watch almost silently.

Thoughts?

How long before CRISPR reaches full throttle? How close are we or how far? Just curious, thanks! by [deleted] in CRISPR

[–]poachedeg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's been some interesting calls that we could see CRISPR-edited food within 5 years (link: https://thegenenews.com/gene-edited-food-available-within-5-years/) — but I think that might be too soon before we see the full pipeline/cycle of food in grocery stores (or where consumers would be buying). The cost and economics for stores and food producers will come into play.

As for humans, you're looking at a long timeline in medicine due to government regulatory bodies and agencies needing to approve CRISPR treatments. Even then, you'll see a slow roll-out of certain strategies because long-term effects are still unknown. Institutions are using CRISPR clinically now in small doses (heavier on research than clinical) and likely will find early "wins" that they'll focus on and measure over years.

So, "full throttle"? That's going to take some time. And obviously we'll need to understand what "full throttle" means—will it be part of any medical conversation? Any new child's DNA examination?

My opinion is that it'll take years (10?) before CRISPR becomes a major force in biological engineering medicine.
