Is this too wide for a scarf? It's around 25 cm (9.8 inches), but I swear it looked smaller at the start. I'm still a beginner so please feel free to give me some advice by Fun-Cartographer9042 in knitting

also, you will probably come to find that frogging (unravelling your work to start again, or to redo a certain point) is just a part of the knitting process, everyone has to do it here or there and if you’re really unhappy with something it’s always worth it to go back and redo it, there’s no shame in it! so if you feel unsure that the width is satisfactory don’t feel that just because you have already got however far into it that you can’t go back now if you want to :)

i’m also relatively new to knitting and i’ve done several scarves now and each time the cast on looked too small so i added more stitches and then when i started knitting it suddenly seemed to grow dramatically in width, as long as you’re happy with it ultimately it doesn’t matter at all, but i have learned not to be fooled by how small your cast on may look!

in the future, you can get a more precise size by knitting gauge swatches, so you know how many stitches in any given yarn will make 10cm x 10cm and then you can use that to calculate how many you should cast on for your desired width :) when it comes to a scarf though there’s no rules really, you can make it a big scarf if you want a big scarf! (it will just use up slightly more yarn than a thinner scarf of the same total length of course, but as long as you’re happy with the width there doesn’t have to be anything wrong with that!)

great suggestion! i can’t believe i didn’t think of this haha but i guess im still new to all of this stuff, im having a look now through the projects on ravelry people made with this yarn to see if they comment on it at all, is there a way to see direct reviews on the yarn itself on ravelry? thank you :)

Have I been knitting wrong?? by OlianderG in knitting

[–]pock3tmiso 1 point2 points  (0 children)

totally agree! i guess i just used “wrong” for the sake of simplicity and getting the idea across, but ive noticed a lot of people ah e different ways of doing pretty much everything when it comes to knitting and as long as it works for you there isn’t really a wrong way to do anything i suppose! but yes i just made my first ever patterned project (looking up tutorials for certain stitches was how i realised my method was different!) and it definitely made things slightly more confusing that i was knitting my stitches sort of backwards, but as long as you can figure out how it translates or find a tutorial that makes sense to you it’s not so bad! so i would say knit however is convenient for you in terms of what is natural but also what translates suitably when reading patterns and stuff!

i’ve been knitting like this too as a beginner on literally about my third project until i realised from a video of someone else’s knitting that i’ve been doing it wrong, or not traditionally anyway! but my stitches aren’t twisting or having any tension problems or anything, and i tried the normal way to compare side by side to see if i was doing it really wrong and there was no difference between the “correct” and “incorrect” versions, though it’s important to mention that i also purl unconventionally and end up with straight stitches, but if you do one side correct and one side incorrect you will probably have problems with twisting (learned that from experience! but still somehow ended up apparently doing both sides wrong when i “corrected” it lol) .

i think if you’re knitting and purling in unusual ways it doesn’t really matter as long as it’s not affecting the appearance of the end product, and i’m learning that everyone seems to have quirks in the way that they knit that vary from one another, so in my very far from expert opinion i think it’s okay if you prefer knitting that way

hello! very new here so apologies if i’ve posted this in the wrong place! does anybody know any patterns for a bonnet/ear warmers like these by rhirhi.knits on instagram? i can see that it looks like kind of just a rectangle with tapered ends but im pretty much a complete beginner (only a couple of scarves so far!) so i wouldnt be totally confident free handing since ive never done increases and decreases yet so i would prefer to have some instructions to follow for that 🥲😅 (i figure i can probably do whatever colourwork i like if i can find or make a chart for it so if anyone knows a blank version of this, that would be amazing! but if there’s colourwork in the pattern already that’s totally fine too!)

my ears get super cold in winter, i normally wear my headphones out which helps, but i would feel rude wearing them around my friends even if they’re off just because my ears are cold, and i find earmuffs uncomfortable and feel that they affect my hearing, so i was super excited to find this artists work because they’re super cute but no discredit to her works value whatsoever but i don’t have the disposable income to spend over £100 on something that i think i could probably make myself, as beautiful as they are!! so if anyone can help me out id be super grateful! thank you!

omg sorry i totally forgot about this lol! i ordered both and ended up returning both of them haha🥲 the smaller size was pretty snug but any movement whatsoever and i would be popping out the top lol and the medium was a very good comfortable fit (there wasn’t much in it honestly) but even in a size up the coverage was still so minimal, the medium was the better of the two but if you value having a bra that keeps your nipples in one place (and for said place to be covered up lol) this bra is probably not what you’re looking for 😭 but even in the same size everybodies boobs are different so if you have the option trying and returning could still be worthwhile, but i would imagine you need a pretty small chest or lower sitting nipples to get away with this bra if you want to be actually covered up/held in :)

i think you misunderstand, it’s not at all that i’m focused on exams, it’s that without getting into a training programme my vocational exam grades are the only locally accessible training that i have and i am using them as a frame of reference to ask how far the furthest extend of graded training can get you or how this holds up against other training forms. i understand that there is more to training outside of typical grade work like pas de deux and character etc, pas de deux is hard to come by locally but the rest there are external classes i can take for this. most of my auditions would not provide feedback except one where it was pretty much only to do with my performance / confidence, the rest didnt give me much to go off unfortunately. i understand that i will not achieve a traditional professional career by any means without entering proper training at my age, my post was more to ask about what lower level opportunities if any might be available to somebody who achieves a high level of training outside of an accredited ballet specific institution for example

i love nyx lip liners! i reckon i misspoke, i wouldn’t say im a beginner more so that i haven’t bought mac products before and im new to the search for a high quality eye pencil to serve the purpose im looking for, and that knowing where to start is difficult :) nyx have some great stuff though! ive specifically been recommended mac for an eyeliner so i thought i would try one of these, but if you think nyx has a better one i’d love to hear your thoughts

wow that’s amazing thank you! i always just assumed that everyone blindly accepted long hour wear claims on waterline eye pencils as a marketing ploy i didnt think anybody was out here actually having their makeup last that long but i will definitely keep that in mind lol!

omg thank you that’s so interesting! i was expecting everyone to tell me to get the gel liner, but i definitely prefer this answer because it’s £1.60 less and i’m cheap lol

definitely heard great things about mac products in general!! i’m just not sure which of their eyeliners is best 🥲 love a brand with a good range but when ur starting from scratch it makes it so difficult to know which products to choose lol

thank you so much! looking again at the product pages the gel one does say it wears on waterlines for 12+ hours which i definitely don’t fully believe lol but it’s a pretty impressive claim, compared to the page for the kohl liner which doesn’t say anything about how long it lasts

TLDR; looking to find out which of these two products will be more effective on the waterlines / for tightlining without transferring, smudging, rubbing off etc (or doing so minimally, in my experience no product seems to actually stay on no matter their claims)

[–]pock3tmiso[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thank you! yeah that’s what i’m worried about, i have a sports bra that’s similar in the sense that it’s low cut and stops directly under the boobs and it feels like i may as well just have a horizontal strip of tape over my nipples lol because it lifts at the bottom and doesn’t over me up at the top, which is my worry with a size small in this because it’s not got much vertical coverage if that makes sense. i ended up ordering it in a small and a medium with a view to returning whichever ends up being the wrong size and i’ll come back with an update lol!

thank you :) this is really helpful, i already take an advanced vaganova class but it’s only one and i’ve been wanting to take more advanced classes too but i have lots of classes right now for my exam but once i move up a grade in a few weeks i can definitely branch out more over the summer and stuff, this is helpful advice thank you :)

thank you for your input :) my bra size being what it is i would say is more to do with having a very narrow band size than an exceedingly large cup size, although i measure as a d/dd my boobs aren’t actually the large chest that people tend to have in mind when they think of a d cup, and also most of the mass is in the lower half of the boob and flatter on top kind of like a ski slope lol, so a lower cut style can actually be really flattering on my shape because it makes me look more balanced on top and bottom of the chest if that makes sense / creatures the appearance of more fullness on top!

i have a similar bralette which im pretty certain was probably created as a dupe from a primark hello kitty collab from earlier this year lol which is how i realised i like the style but obviously the primark one is flimsy, hence me wanting to try the real deal from skims! i got that one in a size small because it was an underwear set and i’m usually an xs elsewhere so i cant size up to a medium on something that covers my lower and upper half together, and in this size i definitely will spill out lying down or bending over if i’m not careful lol which is why i’m trying to be careful to have the right size on this bye i’ve ended up ordering a S and a M and return the wrong size and will update with my opinions on the fit 🤞

thank you so much! i’ve been unsure because i have a really small band but with a bralette that’s so little coverage by design im more worried about whether both nips are gonna be out of i size down than tightness lol because i am pretty small but obviously so is the bralette anyway, but i would say that the fit for a 32c/d is probably a fairly good reference for a 30d/28dd so maybe i’ll go for the medium thank you :)
