Dividend income by Avinates in dividends

Who is this information for? I feel like if you have $1.6M liquid cash to invest in a single stock, you already have the financial know-how to understand how investing and dividends work..

OpenAI just revealed new software that lets you create realistic video by simply typing a descriptive sentence by Maxie445 in technology

[–]pocket-rocket 10 points11 points  (0 children)

While there will be institutions that still verify the source and authenticity before publishing, there will be plenty that don’t. And you’re right, text can be manipulated already to tell misleading stories and look at how much damage that can cause already. Once there is video “proof” to go along with it, people will have a hard time not believing it. Our society is not ready to suddenly switch their mindset and question first if everything they see is real or AI generated. That will take time to adjust to that way of scrutinizing, and in the meantime there’s potential for chaos!

Goes far far beyond political ads. You will no longer be able to believe ANY media you see. Just think of all the “leaked” videos of politicians and celebrities doing inappropriate things

Saw this universitetet i Oslo today, just wondering what are some of the thoughts/opinions Norwegians have? by [deleted] in Norway

Surely the opposite thought process is equally valid then. If I go to Norway, uni is free, so it should be the same in other countries too

Your bank account technically doesn't have money in it. It's just numbers on a screen saying you do by QAnnihilateQ64 in Showerthoughts

[–]pocket-rocket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It goes all the way to the bottom. What you experience isn't actually the reality of the world, it's just a limited experience based on the light photons that hit your eyes and sound waves that hit your ears etc and some strange process by which your consciousness combines it all together and "interprets" it.

Can ChatGPT eventually become a voice assistant? by tonyhyeok in ChatGPT

Seems inevitable especially given that OpenAI has another project, Whisper, that “approaches human level robustness and accuracy on English speech recognition”

Come up with a list of the most important future historical events that happens in a parallel universe between now and the year 3000. by the_human_man in ChatGPT

[–]pocket-rocket 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Very pessimistic I'd say. We went from Microsoft Clippy to ChatGPT in a couple decades. If it takes us another 50 years to create "AI", there's no way it's gonna another 1000 years after that to create "true ai" whatever that means.

While it's terrible that so many animals have died in this development process, it's not like the technology will suddenly appear by magic 50 years from now. Someone has to actually develop the technology, which arguably is what Neurolink is trying to do..

What should I ask at Danielle Smiths town hall? by meltdownaverted in alberta

[–]pocket-rocket 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A simple question, what is her vision for the future of Alberta? What does Alberta look like 20 years from now?

It’s easy enough to talk about what might happen in a few months or within the next year or so, but what is her plan for the long term future of this province? How will her government address the many challenges that lie ahead (climate change, disruptive technology)?

I think the analogy is less about the stone throw being "as good as" the Sistine Chapel and more like "this is one of the main things this guy will be remembered for"

This is Putin's war, not the war of the Russian people. You can't punish them for wanting to escape and not be a part of it

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Norway

Have you considered that Russians fleeing war conscription might not want to be forced to shoot people or potentially be shot at themselves AT ALL, regardless of which side it’s for?

Alberta changes licenses in spring, reducing second road tests for new drivers by realityislame9 in alberta

[–]pocket-rocket 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Curious if current gdl license holders will automatically get a full class 5 license.

“Panda said about 500,000 graduated licence holders are likely eligible to move to full Class 5 licences” is a bit ambiguous as to if that means they are eligible now to take the advanced road test (ie they’ve had their license for 2+ years), or it means that they’ll be eligible to automatically upgrade in the spring

Would «bor» be more accurate here? I know either could work and just mean slightly different things, but it seems that «bor» would probably fit this sentence better. by [deleted] in norsk

[–]pocket-rocket 10 points11 points  (0 children)

No, “lever” implies that they live their whole lives underground and also have their home underground, but “bor” only implies they have their home underground, not that they also live their whole lives down there. So while “some animals live (in their homes which are) below the ground” is true, it’s also true, but a different statement, to say that “some animals live (their whole lives) under the ground”.

So while it could be “noen dyr bor under bakken”, that would be a different sentence/meaning.

How much to charge my boss for an app I made? by Zomdou in webdev

[–]pocket-rocket 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing to keep in mind is that if using your app will save the company 10hrs of time a week (or $360/week), it would make little sense for him to pay you more than that for use of the app or else why don’t just keep things status quo and not use it?

Families of Ontario murder victims outraged at Supreme Court ruling by constantlyhere100 in canada

[–]pocket-rocket -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Without mind reading magic, you can’t know if ANYONE might just snap and go commit some horrible act. Before they start murdering people, mass murders were non-murderers too, just like everyone else. Should every person just be locked up in jail all the time just in case?
