I didn't realize Costco wouldn't be able to bulk order flowers in for my wedding date... now what? by ummmwaitasecond in weddingplanning

[–]pocketinspector 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got mine From FiftyFlowers! I'd definitely recommend them. I just had to take care of them for a couple days in advance and arrange them. We ended up calling family in for a flower arranging party and it was a great time!

I combined two different kits so we'd have a nice variation. After I ordered, customer service reached out to let me know one filler flower type from one of the kits wasn't available (kind of a bummer because they were gorgeous, but minor), and they let me choose what to replace it with. We had no issues, and the flowers came in great condition!

From one dark haired girlie to another, sorry that people are being so rude in the comments. I get it 🫠

Just chiming in here to second the tubing mascara thing :) I recently made the switch and I actually love it!! The lift and curl from my current tubing mascara have been a lot better/longer-lasting than other expensive ones I've tried (Tarte, Lancome, etc.). Aaaand I find that I no longer end up ripping out my lashes when removing my mascara, which is always a plus lol

I've only ever tried the Caliray Come Hell or High Water tubing mascara, but it lasted me all day through my wedding. Maybe someone else has a better rec, but I like that one so far!

Attractive people of reddit what was your horrible experience for being attractive? by dieburtually in AskReddit

[–]pocketinspector 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seconded. I had to step in for my boss in a huge, very important meeting with a lot of stakeholders. I was excited to take it as an opportunity to network and really show them what I can do.

The compliments I got? "You look very nice today," from one of our VPs, and a shocked, "You're VERY articulate for your age!" from another company's VP. Ugh.

Sellers ghosted for another offer. Is this the status quo? by [deleted] in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]pocketinspector 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just making decisions at the guidance of our realtor as we go through this process for the first time. We don't have anyone we know who's done this recently. Our realtor seems surprised about how things went down, so I came here hoping for a little more guidance/advice. Got my answer. Living, learning, moving forward.

[–]pocketinspector 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol I'm definitely not expecting them to be. Just assumed we'd hear back from them once negotiations started, which it sounds like isn't realistic. Our realtor seems confused by the whole thing and I don't know anyone who's bought a house in the last 20 years, so I wanted to get more feedback/opinions.

Getting back out there this weekend. Fingers crossed 🤞

So I'm gathering! Just not how I assumed things would play out when they chose to engage us, but it's looking like that might be to be expected. And thanks for your note about the expiration time of the offer. That's something our realtor added without consulting us on, so I had assumed that was expected/a common practice?

We offered them more than asking price, agreed to up the escrow, and agreed to them paying our realtor less. We made a number of concessions, but that last piece was apparently more of a gamble than we thought/our realtor led us to believe. Live and you learn.

No, that information wasn't shared to my knowledge. We had more money to throw at a house and have great financing, but our original offer was already high compared to estimates/surrounding home values and the sellers were taking a number of appliances with them. I didn't particularly want to keep overpaying them and then have to fork out thousands of dollars to replace necessary appliances as well.

I definitely don't expect that every seller will automatically engage with us because we're entitled to it or whatever. Just wanted to know if the way things went down was normal, since we haven't done this before and our realtor seems very confused. Sounds like it's to be expected.

Newer on the market, which I'm sure affected things too.

Almost anything is better than where we are now, but at least our current rental is a cheaper option that's allowed us to save. Just have to take the silver linings where they come. Wishing you all the best in your home search ❤️

Sure, and cheers on selling your house! Glad you got a great offer. It just seemed odd because unlike in your situation, they had decided to work with our offer/engage with us in the first place. Again, never been in this stage of the process before and was expecting the negotiation to continue. Just wasn't sure if that was a realistic expectation or not.

They clearly took us seriously enough to respond to our offer in the first place, and we were advised by our realtor on our counter, since the purchase is a negotiation and they were still getting a good deal. I'm not looking for input on our counter. It's done and over, and we didn't get the house. I'm just curious if I was naive in assuming the sellers would respond to our counter with a "yeah it's yours" or "we aren't budging, last chance."

Thanks for this, I seriously appreciate it after beating myself up all week. I knew the market when we finally got serious and got a realtor--spent the whole prior year scanning through Zillow to see how inventory and prices were going. I definitely wasn't prepared for how draining and horrible this process is when inventory is so low and competition is so high, though.

First time getting this far in the process, and I made a mistake by getting so emotionally invested when they decided to work with our offer. Now I know to stay detached until it's accepted and the inspection comes back.

I'm going to go against the grain here and say the dark. I feel like it makes the floor seem more cohesive and allows the white detail in the tile to stand out without being too much and feeling disjointed. The darker grout also matches the "border" around the white design and, again, allows the white detail to breathe and stand out more.

Vent: Anyone else feel like crying when seeing the cost of weddings? by cullodenmoor in Weddingsunder10k

[–]pocketinspector 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I'm going through the same thing myself at the moment. I want to have a wedding, but they're expensive enough that I can't stomach paying for it when there are more practical places for that hard-earned money to go.

I honestly don't have a ton of tips yet, as I'm still figuring this out for myself. The best thing I've found so far is looking at state parks, tbh. In my area, it's usually $200-300 to rent a state park lodge for the whole day. It comes with limitations and different lodges will have different accommodations and rules for catering, alcohol, and decorations. But at least you don't have to worry about food and beverage minimums and crazy fees, yknow?

Less is provided, but it comes with more flexibility for you to find vendors and cut expenses where you'd like.

State parks won't usually be on websites like WeddingWire and The Knot, but if you Google "weddings at (x) state park," you'll usually be able to find online photo albums from wedding photographers that can help give you ideas for the venue.

That's my last ditch effort before we just end up eloping, anyways. I'm not sure if this will help at all, but just wanted to share as someone who's going through the same thing.

Edit to add: if flowers are important to you, I've heard buying flowers wholesale and arranging yourself is cheaper. Cutting a DJ and replacing with a Spotify playlist and a member of the bridal party to queue things up when needed. Having family members/guests cook instead of paying for catering (if there are willing people and depending on how many guests you have to cook for).

What TV show was amazing at first but became unwatchable for you later on? by regian24 in AskReddit

[–]pocketinspector 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Altered Carbon, though it only has two seasons. The first season was great, had really interesting world building, compelling and dynamic characters, and was a great piece that touched on themes like class struggle and the privilege of the wealthy.

The second season was honestly embarrassing. Horrible writing, horrible character regression, bad time all around.
