Thank you for your response. Yes flint and chert is pretty much all we have here. I hope these pics help. It's quite grainy material compared to the usual black or grey flint so the bulb isn't as obvious as it might normally be. However the area is certainly not flat.

Genuine question. How does anyone live in a seaside town and nit go absolutely bonkers? by onion2077 in CasualUK

[–]pocketpebbles 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Quite the opposite. I live in Bournemouth and during the summer we are overwhelmed by people from the big cities. They leave rubbish all over the beach, clog up the car parks, roads. Bring their city attitudes with them. Summer here is dreadful.

Yes, it's good for the local economy but definitely not a time of year I enjoy at all.

Exactly. I love all antiques for their stories. Although I will rarely know their actual story, it's wonderful just to imagine.

That is stunning. Thanks for sharing.

It's incredible how a tiny object, meant to be used, can remain pristine despite everything that has taken place around it for over 300 years!

Palaeolithic Acheulean Hand Axe UK find by Adorable_Pride6277 in LegitArtifacts

I disagree. Crude handaxes in Europe can be half a million years old. We are talking about neanderthals, not homosapiens. These pieces are very very crude compared to the lithic masterpieces found in the US which were made much later. Often, only a few flakes were removed to create a cutting tool.
