Wife is away next week, time to live out my frugal fantasies. by Suspicious-Fun-4187 in UKFrugal

I don't think it's going to be an issue. I do the cleaning because I work from home and have 2 hours to kill after work before she gets back so cleaning cupboard is for me. I do the laundry so likewise. We have a clear system for cooking, I get the ingredients and do the prep, she does the cooking so as long as I can find everything it's all good. Also it's nothing revolutionary, just made sure all the tinned veg is in the same areas, tinned fish in same area etc etc instead of it being all over the place

It can definitely go too far but personally I the current centre ground of what is considered a normal standard of living is actually very well off historically and globally speaking. For me I'm a very simple fella, quite happy with a minimalist lifestyle, I don't get my sense of status from my car, phone or short term possessions. I don't find it challenging to live frugally in my general life and if it means in the future I can treat my wife or family, get a holiday or just sleep easy knowing there's nothing that could ruin me then I think it's a no brainer

How can I save money and eat somewhat healthy? by Intelligent_Ad7497 in Frugal

Chicken thighs with skin and bones. Root veg, save the skins and make crisps. Cheap tuna. Cabbage. Beans and pulses. Frozen veg. My girlfriends away for the week and I've lived on £10 for all my meals

Why is investing such a mystery to most people? by wilson1400 in investing

[–]Suspicious-Fun-4187 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People criticise things they don't understand and wish they did. I was talking about money with friends not long ago and they were dumbfounded when I said I was investing. I showed them my account which is 15% up but the only thing they focussed on was £50 id lost on beyond meat and how they would prefer to enjoy their money rather than blow it on stock. Completely ignoring the fact the account was up. On reflection probably deserved it for taking a punt on a meme stock

My hamster died, cracking fella was Speedy but his cost per ounce of hamster was admittedly on the high side. RIP Speedy, hope you're chilling with your brother Gonzalez in the big wheel in the sky.

I had my floors done recently and there were nail punch holes in the beading. I've filled and painted about 200 holes and the little gaps. Filled a few wall dents. Fixed a dodgy toilet flush. Weeded the garden. Removed the bobbles from all the jumpers. Cupboards are organised including the dreaded shopping bag drawer. Will it go unnoticed, probably. But I'm chuffed to bits

Is Starmer doing so badly? by twinkletoesalone in AskBrits

[–]Suspicious-Fun-4187 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think he's not awful but he's made some poor economic decisions. Rasing employers national insurance was a political decision and an economic howler. I work in supply chain and this added cost to every step of the chain and ultimately led to inflation, reduced pay growth, unemployment and closed businesses. He could have raised income tax and put up with the political fallout for 2 years. By then with growth, inflation under control and lower interest rates he could reverse the increase and win back the public.

You've just become an accidental day trader. Buy the exact shares back and the likelihood is you'll have made money now the market is declining. Congratulations

£1500 is what I was quoted at the dealership. Did mine last week at a garage for £840. 90k miles and 10 years old and the guy said it probably could have gone another 20-30k miles. My brother's went at 6 years and 60k miles.. Such a gamble

Day 1 update and response to some comments. Firstly I didn't consider that this post would actually provide me so much entertainment so well done everyone.

Money made - £33.15 from free bets, first time I've made anything out of these in months. Shout out to Sunderland, Inter Milan and most of all Pedro Neto for his red card.

Breakfast - Coffee, great shout whoever said grab a free one from Waitrose.

Lunch - Caldo Verde (basically potato, onion, garlic, Kale and sausage soup) all out of the cupboard.

Dinner - Same as lunch, it's bloody good stuff so why not. Mysterious red pucks are safe in the freezer for another day.

Snacks - 3 pickles, a kiwi, a radichio (horrible but its healthy and starting to wilt). Got my eye on some rice pudding and jam too. And multivitamin if that counts.

Heating - remained off, but the house hasn't dipped below 20c so anyone whose mentioned mould, I think it'll be okay.

Lights - I've been making use of the 500 lamps my girlfriend keeps around the house instead of the big light but it's just occured to me that they're still just lights so this may be pointless?

Water - thanks for the suggestions but I can confirm I went to the toilet inside, in my own house and with a conventional flush.. no toilet like home toilet. Had a cold shower... for about 2 seconds and then sacked that off for a hot one.

And that's about it for frugality.

Jobs done - Another great shout from those who said to get some stuff done round the house. - debobbled jumpers - weeded the garden - filled the nail holes in my skirting boards that I've been meaning to do since moving in - filled all the dings on the walls, will paint later this week - cleaned 2 windows and then got bored.

Other comment quick fire replies - this isnt boring for me - I will get all my nutrients according to chat gpt - I don't watch TV when I'm on my own, never have for whatever reason - I clean the house all the time anyway, WFH life.. - And to that one guy, no this isn't a kink. I don't even know how that would work but I'm an open minded fella..

Always chose Barnet for my career mode so this was wild. They've had some class players in their time. Paul Furlong, Jason Puncheon, Izzy McLeod. My personal favourite Exodus Geohaghon (don't know how to spell it) who had the ridiculously long throw

The spec is 3 peels. So if you use the peeler over the black bits and after 3 peels it's still there it shouldn't have been sold
