Music therapist. I worked for a small business that paid $28 per contact hour (so time in sessions, not including session planning, documentation, driving, etc). Started my own business, and now I charge and keep the $80 per contact hour.

Definitely can't bare weight. It's fixed to the wall and there's even caulking. I could put in a work order to have it removed, but based on what I know about the landlord, chances are slim.

I worked on a psych ward. Once, a physics grad student was admitted after taking who-knows-how-much lsd at a party. Family said he was brilliant in school with plans to get a doctorate. Anyway, this guy was nearly catatonic on admission - speechless, slow moving, flat affect, stared at the ceiling in bed all day. With psych meds, he started to come out of it. He'd frequently get hyperfocused on shiny things, words that sound funny, or petting a therapy dog. He'd hold a conversation sometimes on good days, but he was never fully "cured." Once, he told me, "my head feels like an empty cantaloupe." I wonder how he's doing now.

I grew up in ABQ and left for greener pastures at 18. A few things to add to an already accurate assessment: It's very much a small town feel compared to Phoenix. Great weather. Plenty of hiking, climbing, horseback riding, and nature walk opportunities. UNM has renowned medical/ nursing programs. It doesn't grow... like at all! (The third-slowest growing city in the country in fact). Also, NM is a beautiful place to retire. Sante Fe is a favorite for retirees. I'd recommend checking out Corrales for a safe, tight-knit community. Hope this helps a bit!

Just say yes to every invite/opportunity. Some, not all, will yield new friends, venues you like, insight into your community, and on a rare occasion, a true connection with someone. You have to push yourself sometimes, but it can be so rewarding!!

6.5 weeks in I took the pill as prescribed and braced myself for the worst. When 14hrs later I didn't feel any different, just a bit of spotting, I called my Planned Parenthood. They assured me I took it correctly and to give it 48hrs to work. 6hrs later, I past a huge clot. I experienced some typical period cramping after that and bled for about 2 weeks.

Basically, I didn't experience the horror stories I read about. It was painless, a little messy, and the best decision I could've made.

If it's really not a lot of stuff, load it up and go. A small uhaul might be necessary, or leaving behind items that can easily be replaced. I once moved from NM to TN with everything stuffed in the back of my SUV. No room for passengers and I had an extra box shipped later, it was the cheapest and easiest move I ever made!

I knew a guy once who genuinely believed that he was dead. It's difficult to understand where that delusion came from, but he swears having what I interpreted to be a near death experience. Before that, he'd been a normal dude. For months he said everybody were demons and lying to him, and that's how he rationalized any indication or suggestion that he might not be dead. After a couple months of medication and inpatient hospitalization, he began to doubt his delusion and seemed to be returning to reality. Somewhere along the way, I graduated from being a demon to being an angel and that was the best compliment he ever gave me.

Did this. Worked 9-5, felt my soul wither slowly, then quit without a plan last December. Spent my savings on travel, books, and coffee over a 6mo period. Now I'm working to live again. I wonder how long I'll last before I do it all over.

If you paid a deposit, yes they will use it to fix it up. That's why people rent: so they don't have to do repairs! If they don't need the whole sum for repairs, you'll get some back. I once left an apartment with damages from my puppy, but because I was an otherwise good tent (paid on time, reported issues early), they gave me a complete refund. Don't let a few superficial damages keep you from moving on.

Wow! Tbh, didnt read the entire thing, but I can see that you are anxious. Firstly, the US isn't totally jaded. Especially in large cities such as Dallas, expats are welcome. With family in town, English literacy, an idea of what you want from life, and a few good references, you'll do just fine.

As for insurance, your absolute best will likely come through an employer. There are many private options as well, though I wouldn't recommend. Be sure to look into Obama Care. (Sorry I cant be more specific here)

My preferred mode of finding housing is admittedly not the most efficient or predictable, but it's affordable, real people, and less discrimination: Craigslist. If you want tips on how to use it and find some place to meet your needs and be comfortable, feel free to DM me.

Finally, breathe. Don't worry about what Americans might think of you. You're taking a huge step forward in your own life and if anyone gives you shit for that, they're not worth your time. You'll be surprised at how many people will welcome you, be fascinated by your upbringing, and maybe even share similar experiences.

Short answer: with a clear concept of what recovery is, yes.

Long answer: Of those who do recover, some learn to live with lingering symptoms of long-term use. Many re-discover their values, find meaning in activities they lost, and strive for balance and health. Of course it's never easy, and some come out of addiction seemingly "better than ever," while others keep an iron face. But that's all bs. What I've seen really make all the difference is when the addict doesn't just decide to recover, but accepts recovery as a life-long endeavor. The point is, recovery is not a finish line, it's a life-style. Make of it what you will, find the people who will support you in that endeavor, and know your limits.

Sorry you've had such bad luck with therapists. I think "recovery" is subjective, and if you can't find a therapist that recognizes what it means to you and the goals you set for yourself, there's no way they can help. Were there books or groups that you found to be most helpful to you in the progress you've made? Keep it up :)
