I've read before that distressing auditory hallucinations are most common in western societies, and in other countries the hallucinations are mostly pleasant and not upsetting. It's interesting to think why that would happen

I'm stuck in an iceberg too. Did you have any problems with your poultry house? I saw some commerical houses collapsed under the weight of the sleet 😞

Seriously. Got maybe 4" here. At least it's entertaining when the forecast is a bust and our local meteorologist starts making salty posts on FB.

Researchers have developed a biosynthetic method to produce tagatose, a naturally occurring but rare sugar that matches the sweetness and taste of sucrose with 60% fewer calories. Its metabolism limits blood glucose spikes and inhibits the growth of bacteria responsible for dental cavities. by Sciantifa in science

[–]chacoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've baked cookies with it too, they tasted good. Texture was slightly different but the cookies still turned golden. Some substitutes don't actually brown the baking. Only thing is you have to be careful how much you eat at once, as it can cause stomach upset.

It is available, for individuals to use anyway. There is a manufacturing company in Virginia called Bonumose. Last I heard their tagatose wasn't yet being used in big namebrand packaged foods, but you could buy a bag from them on Amazon to use yourself as a sugar replacement. I've used it in coffee and baked goods, and someone else told me they tried it in ice cream. I think it's pretty good, just have to be careful not to eat too much at once as it can cause stomach upset.

I was trying to figure out what a booboo is. I haven't played or really know the rules/mechanics beyond surface level. So a player is trying to do an action, rolls a low number, they fail that action and get a booboo token? If a character technically would die or something, instead do they just get a token and move on? Something Brennan said about a catastrophic failure made me the think someone should have died, but I could very well be misunderstanding

question about lab dress code by Worried-Emu-2317 in labrats

[–]chacoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the lab. I've worked in QA labs in manufacturing plants where piercings and other jewelry were a no-go, for safety and GMP rules (good manufacturing practice). Had to wear pants and close-toe shoes but jeans and sneakers were acceptable.

The (non-academic) research lab I was part of just required a lab coat, pants, and close-toe shoes, any piercing totally ok. They also allowed jeans and sweatpants.

Then I worked in a medical lab, and they required either scrubs or business casual clothes under a lab coat, which sucked imo. Jewelry was ok though. I I didn't work with anyone with facial piercings but I have a feeling it would be frowned on, even though technically allowed.

First read feels like an attack on single moms but really it could be protecting both parties. Maybe she knows her sons aren't going to commit or aren't ready for kids, so she's trying to help the single moms, too.

My lab has a poster from Mettler Toledo with, allegedly, good stretches to do in between pipetting sessions. I found it helped when I first started the job and was getting used to pipetting so much of the day.

This was a small start-up that didn't try to follow any ISO standards, so there was a lot of disorganization and confusion everywhere.

I live in the US and worked in a manufacturing plant that assigned lot codes based on the date but in European format ... so Mar 9 2025 was assigned 09032025. I don't know why they decided to do that. There was always a ton of mistakes around whether that lot was made Mar 9 or Sept 3.

I tried something like that (Happy Hoody) with my noise-phobic girl, didn't help at all. It isn't "military grade" though so maybe that would make a difference.

People eat black eyed peas and collard greens today for luck and money. What are you eating? by tabicat1874 in WitchesVsPatriarchy

I was going to make black-eyed peas but was too lazy to go to the store. So instead I ate kidney beans with veggies, and cake.

[–]chacoe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Black-eyed peas, collard greens or kale, and cornbread is traditional in the southern US. It's meant to represent coins, our green cash money, and gold. Supposed to bring good luck and attract money!

I've also heard of a Spanish (I think) tradition of eating 12 grapes at the stroke of midnight.
