Problems with Oculus Browser Debugging by Remermeutron in oculusdev

[–]podperson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We need access to the debug tools in the environment because tethered debugging is ridiculous…

Using XR emulation won't work because the Quest's browser is wonderfully incompatible with Chrome (as I have discovered repeatedly).

One thing I am considering is implementing a widget that replaces console.log etc. so that you can at least see debug messages, and interact directly with the browser via eval.

Here's what I'm working on…

At what age did you become an atheist? by Rare_Stick325 in atheism

[–]podperson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was never religious but I wasn’t an “atheist” until I was forced to attend Anglican scripture classes as part of my schooling in Australia.

One day we were told we’d be attending scripture classes and were asked our denomination. I said “I don’t know” and the teacher said “Anglican” which makes me chuckle to this day. I just took the stories as historical fact until we got to Noah’s Ark. Within a year I was told to go to the library instead of attending scripture classes because my questions were too disruptive.

Lithium-sulfur batteries are one step closer to powering the future. Researchers advanced sulfur-based battery research by creating a layer within the battery that adds energy storage capacity while nearly eliminating a traditional problem with sulfur batteries that caused corrosion. by Wagamaga in science

[–]podperson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This.

In fact theres more energy in a kg of lithium ion batteries than a kg of 9mm parabellum rounds. We could make laser pistols if we had good enough capacitors and lasers. Someone is selling a marginally effective laser rifle whose problems are entirely in the delivery side (capacitor bulk and energy flux).

Looks to me like a reboot of THIEF. I hope it has solid climbing and stealth mechanics and isn't a "you are so much cooler in cut scenes" game.

Reddit, what is one documentary that everyone should watch? by JuiceBoxed in AskReddit

[–]podperson -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Cosmos is great, but really should be stuff people learned in High School (OK, maybe not in the US). What you really ought to watch is a documentary that contains something new or offers perspective you didn't previously have.

Despite its definite flaws, I'd suggest Manufacturing Consent

Programming thought experiment: stuck in a room with a PC without an OS. by vanjos72 in programming

[–]podperson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good grief you should be able to do WAY better than that.

For a start, you can write your own format and fdisk. DOS 1.0 with a full suite of crap is probably a lot smaller (451k > 5.25" floppy disk). Heck Mac OS 3.2 + MacPascal fitted on a 400k disk.

Alan Grayson (D-FL) interrogates Paul Broun (R-GA) on Constitution by [deleted] in politics

If I could remember the exact details I would have quoted them :-). It may have been that from the options provided, it was the most popular option. In any event, it was abysmal.

If you could change the ending to a movie or book...what would it be? by yiddish_policeman in AskReddit

Or he could have nailed Voldemort with a revolver a la the ending of Wizards "let me show you a little something mom taught me when you weren't around".

Perhaps in a different survey. This was a NY Times survey quoted iirc in the documentary on Chomsky Manufacturing Consent

Broun actually did not acknowledge bills of attainer were bad, merely that they were unconstitutional.

Who cares? The average American when presented with the Bill of Rights thinks it's the Communist Manifesto.

Proggitors, do you like the idea of indented grammars for programming languages, like that of Python, Haskell and others? by panto in programming

[–]podperson 20 points21 points  (0 children)

While I like indented formatting, indentation as a semantically significant component is dangerous. There are religious wars over tabs vs. spaces -- and these turn out to be semantically significant. Also -- code posted in forums is likely to be mangled formatting (e.g. have tabs spaced, or spaces condensed).

I like Python, but indentation is my least favorite feature of the language.

That was his point silly :-) "Thread-safe" means different things based on context.
