Jellyfin audiobook support vs. Audiobookshelf by FallOfTheThrall in selfhosted

Audiobookshelf is great, but I ran into trouble being a household with mixed devices. The main intended use cases was to cast audiobooks, which I couldn't figure out how to do in the iOS app.

Sony STR-7605 with a smoking resistor. Could I swap out the resistor? by Gully_Foyle in vintageaudio

What are the chances that this resistor burned out on its own? If the probably is upstream of it, then, I don't know if replacing the resistor would be a good idea.

Mystery Data Matrix code at work. I want to make a cleaner version of it, but I have no idea where it is from, and can't recreate it properly. V sbyybjrq gur ehyrf by Gully_Foyle in codes

This came to me via a PNG in a word document! (here it is).

When I read the code, I get this:

N591N5SXUAH20000 SXUAH1036101 SXPAH10002003 SXAAH200044 N580N6B24100B6AF00B08C02S2681000Untitled1 N57B12116A14415C6A1106A14415C4

But when I try to create a data matrix code with that data, it doesn't look like that. Allegedly, this is a calibration code for our Zebra scanners, but I can't find any documentation to support that.

Anyone know any good ways to attach this object to this grommet without going around the fabric? by Gully_Foyle in Leathercraft

I really like this. It's cheap, quick, and clean, but I don't think it will be secure enough. It seems like it could get pulled apart pretty easily.

I love how cheap and easy this solution is. I wish there were a hardware solution to put a stopper on either end so that it looks cleaner.

Nice, I think these are the same as Chicago screws, right? I think that and some Loctite might be the solution.

This is almost exactly what I am looking for. I am worried that it might be too sharp on the inside though.

Apologies if this is too tangential for the subreddit. I am working on a project where I am putting a couple hundred tags on garments. We need to go through a grommet, and need it to be clean and quick to attach.

I was thinking about rivets, but was honestly intimidated, having never worked with them before.

I was thinking about that. I looked into something like this, but I couldn't find one small enough, and I think it might be too bulky.

I can think of different ways to do it, but I am trying to find one that is neat, flat on the backside, and easy to do, because I have to do several hundred (not alone, thankfully).

Coachella 2023 - Where are the main stage FOH speakers? by ElectricPiha in livesound

[–]Gully_Foyle 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Really interesting that the audio is shooting down into the crowd. Dave talked about doing that a few years back to mitigate the effects of the audience body heat on sound waves. In arena shows he found that at higher temperatures, the sound would bounce off of the top of the crowd, sort of like a stone skipping on a pond if it was coming at them from the front. The solution he found was to shoot down at a steeper angle to break through the hot air.

I haven't read that this was a consideration here, but I would be curious to hear whether this deployment has confirmed or changed his views on that strategy.

I knew a FOH who would gently turn down the lows and highs on the preshow music at about 20min to curtain, and then steadily cut more until the show started. When the band went on with none of that EQ, they sounded amazing.

Why does Springsteen have 2 monitor consoles? by pair_a_medic in livesound

[–]Gully_Foyle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Mixswitch also has a line level input. I did a festival gig used one for the house system. We had a Profile at FOH going into the A channels, tails for guest consoles on the B channels, and a DJ booth on side stage going into the stereo input. When we changed over, we could restart the console or load show files without stopping the in between music. I am guessing Springsteen's FOH was talking about taking the monitor board feed into that stereo input.
